From VPC’s to Dealerships: Enclosed or open transporters?

Definitely open. I travel often on I-95 in the North Florida/South Georgia area near the Brunswick port and see open car haulers with BMW’s often.

Always open but the cars have factory shipping protection still applied.

Thank you. BMW has cheaped-out at least on the west coast; for years around when we got our three new ones about 2010, they would have these special totally enclosed transporters with the rear being a one piece. upper opening, white clamshell having a breautiful 2 1/2 ’ diameter BMW roundel painted on them.

Oh well, for our iX traveling and handling as you know the cost is $995 compared to $1,695 currently for Corvettes (transported in a 95% covering Tyvek traveling suit).

The car ends up on many carriers from factory to dealer as you probably know, including rail, truck and RoRo. By rail almost always enclosed, by truck almost always open, and below decks on the RoRo. I've never had a dealer delivery in anything other than an open truck. I would guess as far as miles traveled an iX is enclosed for 90% of its journey from Dingolfing to you, depending.

When I was on the east coast most of my BMWs came in enclosed carriers. In the PNW, it’s been mostly open carriers.

As long as it arrives safely, that is all the counts in the end for all of us.

“Timely” would be a nice addition, especially for some who have been waiting too long already, e.g., hoping their last transporter stage goes quickly.

Not sure about my BMW 2014 and 2019 I3's but my Porsche Cayenne
arrived totally enclosed just like the previous truckload picture.

When I worked in the dealership 2005-13, they were soft material enclosed. During and After pandemic, it's whatever carrier is available.
