My BMW App stopped recording the charging sessions after 19th October and also shows the charging status as Unplugged when the car is plugged in. BMW advised me that this was caused by a failed App update in October and would be fixed by an update on 9th December, but it wasn't.
I went into my local BMW dealer and a long discussion took place during which I was advised that the problems were being caused by the switching of off the 3G network.
Think about this afterwards it occurred to me that surely if this was the cause then all the information from the car would be affected not just the charging data.
Also they said that LCi cars didn't seem to have the problem and then today I learned that two Roadster owners I know have the same issue where charging data is no longer recorded.

Yes mine hasn’t been working for a couple of months. It tells me when it’s finally charged but doesn’t tell it’s charging on the app. And previous months data have disappeared. It’s a 2015 65 uk car. All fully serviced etc. I’m also having the message Battery discharged when stationary. So I didn’t know if it was anything to do with that. BMW are asking £225 to do a diagnostic check. I think on the original 12v battery but not 100% sure.

Ouch! £225 for a diagnostic check! They are taking the proverbial! I haven't had a any data loss but do occasionally get the discharge message but I put that down yo having a dongle in the OBD ports and an iPhone permanently connected running Dash Command to show me oil and water temps plus a tacho in every mode and i sometimes forget to turn the screen off!

My last real-time update was on 11/28 and that date is still displayed on BMW app.

Going to the dealership next week and report back.....

I have a subscription. My LCD screen keyfob iseems to be always connected and displays real-time charging data but the battery drains in a week or so.

I'll have to talk to a BMW tech next week. Once I do, I will report back.... .

The same here. Since Oct 20 the Charging Status updating to app stopped, only does so if car became 100% charged or locked-unlocked. It does not show the nice "Plugged in" image and does not update charging statistics. Everything else via the app seems to work (remote climate etc). Haven't checked in the last 3 weeks as it's sitting in the garage due to snow etc in my part of the world.
Mine is 2018 pre-LCI, located in Estonia.

Hello, I have a June 2017 i8 model and I am experiencing exactly the same problems after I did the latest BMW App updates. The car’s status is always “Unplugged” even when is charging without any problems. Also I noticed that now any command sent from the app to the car is much slower and I get a lot failure to send command messages…I don’t know what they did with this last update but they ruined everything..now the app for the i8 it’s almost unusable anymore 😐. I would like to mention that I am living in Romania, and all the apps functions were working perfectly fine until few months ago..

Mine car March 2018, Roadster. On 22 September I charged the car and data was recorded by Apps. Today I noticed that when I plugged the car in my Apps is not seeing it, while it updated the car status when I opened the door. Also I was sending via apps commands to the car to flash lights and though the commsnd went through Apps as successfull, the headlights didn’t actually flash. My apps is updated.
What should I do? Thanks for your advise

My 2019 Coupe has also stopped. It does give me the correct battery percentage; but does not tell me if the car is charging.

We probably need to be more active with informing BMW customer support and Apps developers via AppStore ratings / feedback on this issue. I did it yesterday myself

I did that via AppStore and I sent an email to customer support Romania, but I didn’t get any reply from them in both cases…

Same here. My car is for German market originally, so I reported the issue both to Germany and my local support. So far just auto replies …

I think all this problems have to do with the change in data traffic that they did…in order to save costs most probably.

For example now My BMW App does not get updates from the car’s status anytime on demand anymore( when you hit refresh) it get’s it only when the car is on, and keeps that status- battery percentage, fuel level, location etc until the car is on again…

All this bs happened after the last update of the app, before that,everything was running perfectly…

Well, I think when the car is in sleeping mode the Apps was not getting updates previously as well (at least in summer 2024 it was the case for my i8). You need to awake the car first before Apps could be updated in other words, I guess this is how telematics in the car works. However, now my car is not even reacting to the commands I send it via App (eg to flash headlights) though the command status in App is marked as “successful”.
It was not the case before October for sure.

My BMW app just started working again with realt time charging updates.
I just happened to check the app now and it had me re-enter login credentials.

That is not the case. My i7 gets real time updates on the App. The i8 still does not.

Hadn't updated since October 21sh then randomly, I had to re login and nee date with real time updates were shown....

In the mean time the people at BMW Romania replied to my e-mail and proposed a “temporary” solution consisting in updating the BMW Services from the ConnectedDrive menu…which surprise suprise didn’t change anything 😅

After I informed them that there are no changes and the car is still displayed as Unplugged while charging they asked for the cars VIN and told me that the tehnical departament analysed my case and it seams that all of a sudden it’s my cars fault because : “the car is not sending records regarding the trigger of car’s charging” whatever this means…They told me to do a factory reset on the car in order to try to solve the problem…which I will not do because I will have a few mods on the cars ambiental light and other things that I will get erased…

I don’t understand how can it be the car’s fault and all of sudden the car is not sending data anymore, just after the app has been updated… before with the older app version everything was perfect.

I think you should ignore this advise, because the problem is clearly with App update. My car has exactly same issue and I won’t believe it could happen to several cars at a single moment

Its our car and the App. My i8 last updated its charging history in October 2024 similar to migsgig. I re-logged into my App and it states my car has an updated status from today, but does not show any charging history or that the car is currently plugged. It just states "all good."
