Any help as a potential new owner

Hi, I'm in the UK and put a deposit down on one of these fantastic looking cars. It's a used 2021 xdrive40 m sport with clear and bold package, sky light and laserlights but not sure what else is included.

I've tried to carry out my research but the options that can be bought on these are mesmerising. Could someone point me in the right direction with what different packages could have been optioned and what they include please? I can't see the surround camera view on any images of the car, the AR on the front camera Sat nav with arrows informing of turnings or any mention or radar cruise control.

Also it looks like some options may be upgradable by paying a fee on the bmw store (such as parking professional). Would you need to have certain options already as a package to upgrade or could you do this from a standard spec?

Sorry for all the questions, looking forward to joining this ownership group!

You will definitely need someone from your region. And yes, the option packaging is a mind game. The local BMW operating units determine the packaging and names, so they are different everywhere.

Here are the things to look for:
  • Upgraded seats with memory buttons
  • Heated rear seats (with radiant heating package)
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Head-up display
  • Crystal controls
  • Rear wheel steering
  • Air suspension
  • Parking Assistant Plus (includes the surround camera view)
  • Laser lights
  • Iconic sounds
  • Soft-close doors
  • ADAS with adaptive cruise and lane centering
  • 4-zone climate control

Thanks very much for the reply. Hopefully a UK owner will also reply. The only other thing I think it may have is massage function and parking assist but I'm unsure what comes as standard and what was an option. Anything worth looking for when test driving?

This probably has a few errors, but this is what I think you look for:
  • Base, Harman Kardon, or Bowers & Wilkins Audio system - US has 3 options, and not sure how to know, except maybe B&W or HK is on the front door speaker grills
  • Upgraded seats - will have massage & memory buttons
  • Heated rear seats - you will have to look for rear seat heat on the back control
  • Ventilated front seats - option on the dash HVAC control
  • Head-up display - should be self-apparent
  • Crystal controls - self apparent
  • Rear wheel steering - not sure; don't have it
  • Air suspension - button on center console
  • Parking Assistant - Pro parks between lines and has 3D surround view; Plus only has non-3D view and no remote app control
  • Laser lights - no idea, and I have them
  • Iconic sounds - option in settings, but you can hear them
  • Soft-close doors - partially close a door and see if the car finishes the task
  • ADAS with adaptive cruise and lane centering - option activated with button cluster on the left
  • 4-zone climate control - control in the rear

Don't think this one is correct as I have no idea what button this would be.

Fair. I don't have it, but I thought I saw a button for it in pictures. I edited my post.

No, there is no button for real wheel steering on the console.

Hi Milesyboy, I’m also in Merseyside with the same vehicle. The first thing I would advise you to option would be an extended warranty.
Are you buying privately or dealership ?

UK owner here. IX options list from 2021-22 is simple in bmw terms.

I believe that 360 degree camera and HUD adaptive cruise control HK audio are standard.

Other added Options list would be towbar, tech plus (bowers wilkins) comfort plus (heated armrest steering wheel and glovebox armrest and rear seats), skylounge roof, 22in wheels, laserlights, castanea/amido leather seats.

Happy to take any other questions.

Thanks again for the info. It's definitely a UK 2021 car. It's got laserlights, skylounge, drivers assist professional, crystal controls. I've been told it's also got comfort package but no idea what is included in that.

The car is being bought from a car dealer but its not a main dealership. Any reason why you suggest a warranty? Is it a problematic car? Nice to see someone local with the same car.

This is a great point... I forgot about the audio system in my list above. In the US market, there are 3 variants - the base system, the Harman Kardon system, and Bowers & Wilkins. Most cars are built with Harman Kardon, but it is possible to come across cars with just the base system.

I know the Bowers & Wilkins system has the front door speaker grills with the name. But I am not sure how to know if a car without B&W has HK or base.

I believe if it has tech pack listed then it has HK by default and almost all cars I've seen have tech pack in the UK. Mine doesn’t have B and W at the time didn't think 2k plus extra was worth it for that though I regret it. Next car will have it.

Steering racks reversing camera and charging port have been replaced under warranty. Probably upwards of £5-7 k out of warranty. Don't worry though if it doesn't have warranty. You can buy it off the bmw extended warranty uk site for around £600/ year though in the 1st 30 days I believe you won't have any coverage. Any faults should show up on the iDrive though. A long test drive an attempt at charging and observing ot charge and testing the audio system heated seats checking if headlights work etc or taking a buddy along who is an ev enthusiast and requesting a battery health report would help.

Any clues on spotting if a steering rack is on its way out? Or anything else worth looking for?

I've been offered a warranty with this car but its obviously not with BMW. Do you think I can buy a warranty direct from BMW even though I didn't get the car from them?

"Harman Kardon" is written on the speaker grills.

Looks like I can get a BMW warranty direct from them. Comprehensive cover is circa £1200 per year.

Thanks for the help and advice so far. I'm test driving it today. Anything else of note to look for?

Bought it, and love it. It doesn't have the surround camera view on it which I found surprising but happy with everything else. Just need to do some research on setting it all up now, starting with the my bmw app. Thanks for all help and advice.

Hmm...mine is £580/yr. I suspect though that even over a 3 yr /£3.6k it'll most likely pay itself.
