Clicking / Tapping Noises under iX M60 upon shutdown
Has anyone heard any noises (clicking/tapping, like cleats on tiles) when the iX is shutdown with a warmed up battery?
I have attempted to attach 2 audio-files to help share what these noises sound like, (BP app seems to limit me to attaching photos, so I am trying this post from the web browser to see if it lets me attach audio files…) The noises start 1/2 way through each recording, and last a few seconds. The dealer has not been able to figure this out after 2 separate appointments, and their “Factory TSE” (Technical Support Engineer) likewise had never heard such noises nor what could be causing them. [‘25 iX M60, A/C on, 18xx mileage…] I am able to reproduce the noises as follows, which makes me feel it has something to do with shutting off the vehicle with a ‘warmed up battery’ in 60-70 degree Fahrenheit ambient weather (~16 - 22 degrees C), though I’m just taking a SWAG at this point: Drive the iX for ~20miles / 32 Km Park the car Shut down the car —> at this point, I almost always hear these noises emanating from underneath the car (appears to come from below the driver’s seat area under the car) Drive again for another 10-15miles / 16-24 Km Shut down the car —> 99% of the time, I will hear these noises. No amount of web searching, nor the dealer inspections to-date have produced any clues. Any suggestions / insights would be greatly appreciated. EDIT: Looks like attached audio files didn’t make it in; if anyone can advise on how to attach audio files from the app, I’m happy to do so. Last edited by iXM6025; 04-29-2025 at 10:30 PM.. |

Do you have a Dropbox/Google/Drive or Youtube you can upload the files to? We can listen there.
Also, I'm 99% sure it's just the battery cooling system doing it's work. You might even find some radiator fluid dripping underneath your car when it's working extra hard to optimize the battery. It is pretty warm in San Diego. And I know when I drove my friend's M60 for a week it was very hard to take my foot of the accelerator. I bet the batteries and motors are doing extra work!! ![]() |

Great feedback - thank you. I will attempt the YouTube route; I appreciate the suggestion. I hope it truly is just the battery cooling system doing its job as you said. |

I also do not recall regular noises imminating from my battery on cool down. I did on my Tesla but not on the BMW. It might be normal and unique to OPs vehicle as it’s easy to imagine some contraction/expansion with warming/cooling cycles. Dealer can confirm. |

I was just about to state that my iX can make ‘odd’ random noises when turned off and I’ve exited and closed the door. I just walk away and don’t worry about it tbh.

This! Pretty much unless you have an error message or seeing liquid on the ground (that is not from A/C) then do not worry about it. The amount of things controlled by the computers etc is crazy, these cars have all sorts of things that run when they are "off". The other day for example mine had the battery cooler fan running after shutdown as the battery temp was hot as I had just DC fast charged it on the way home. Ran for a minute or two after the car was "turned off".
