Center Console
Hi all, new here. Just picked up a second hand xDrive40. lovely car to own. Mine did not have the crystal/wood pack but i did pick up a control unit from a dead iX. I managed to removed the trim around the center console and i can get to the connectors. Question is....if i were to do this on an ICE car, then i would have disconnect the 12volt battery, leave it for an hour then do the "surgery".....in the iX... is it as simply as disconnecting the 12V battery, or actually...BEV are built differently and i may be shortcircuiting da heck out of the car

I don't know how you put an iX in a service mode where it is totally unpowered, but I know it is possible in other BEVs. I did a project on another car where there was a documented procedure to disconnect the high voltage battery and the low voltage battery.
You cannot just disconnect the 12V battery, because the car is actually powered by the high voltage battery through a DC-DC low voltage converter. The 12V only exists to kick start the HV process.

Yes, you would have to disconnect both. The High Voltage battery disconnect is located in the trunk on the side compartment, it’s a switch you pull a tab out on, after which the car will display a message on the screen that says “high voltage system deactivated”. Then, you would have to open the hood and use the OEM pins or other suitable tool to hold it open, while you disconnect the negative terminal on the 12v battery that is in that area.
