that seems overpriced, especially since there are so many other cars in that segment (Acura NSX, Mercedes AMG GT R, Audi R8) in the similar price range that outperform the i8 Coupe/Roadster.

I think very few of these cars will be sold at this price. High discounts and demo-cars (by the end of the year and after) will be the norm I believe.

Any info on when the roadsters will arrive at dealers? Is there a 2018 model run year for the i8 coupe or do they plan to skip a year?

Most of them are June production dates and all of them are 2019

Of course they are expensive to produce, just look at the engineering, the materials, the unique design, the limited number.... The i8 is a showcase to possibilities, its no normal car.

The information I received from a contact at BMWUSA was that deliveries of the coupe should start in April or May. Not sure about the roadster.

The Mercedes is...starts at $124,400 and the Audi Spyder starts at $177,100. They aren't hybrids, but they outperform the i8 Coupe and Roadster.

Way back, ten years ago, my thoughts were that BMW should explore the use of CF in a Z2 M venue. A superlight (1000Kg) roadster and coupe w turbo 4 cyl 340 hp, cost under $60k. That is BMW tradition, their niche. The i8 is throwing several different new technologies together in an elite venue, it is a complex exploration in search of a new niche. Not sure how it got approval from the bean counters, but the world is a more interesting place because it did.

I was told only three colors are available for the Roadster: Sophisto Grey, Crystal White and E-Copper. Also, the only option is laser headlights. Anyone else hear anything?

My dealer set me up with their first allocation on the i8 Roadster on Feb 1. I have a Production Number and the vehicle has been preliminarily configured for E-Copper/Tera World Copper/Laserlight. Same with me...I have the first allocation at my dealer with a production number. I haven't changed the configuration yet; I'm waiting for the color options to be available in the ordering system.
