Get the C8. Had the pleasure of following one during a drive yesterday. Amazing car! Supercar looks and street presence and probably the best sounding V8 l've ever heard. The car had an aftermarket exhaust but was quiet in low rpms and sounded like heaven opened up in the mid to high. The Chevy engineers took the time to tune the sounds to perfection - the intake noise, the high rpm exhaust scream, it was just sublime. The whip crack upshift sound was also insane, made me giggle and I couldn't stop wanting to follow the C8. The interior was also gorgeous, slanted towards the driver, made it feel like you were sitting in a fighter jet cockpit. We had some mad cars in the drive yesterday - Huracan STO, GT2RS, 992 GT3RS, GT4RS - but all were boring next to the C8.

Sorry if my opinion offends you. It was a Japan-spec base C8 with aftermarket exhaust. But C8s are rare here in Malaysia and GT3s are dime a dozen. Even the new 992 3RS failed to impress me. It was loud sure, but that's it.
You can see most of the cars in the pic below. The STO is the black and green one, far left. The C8 Vert is the red one hidden way in the back. The GT2RS hadn't arrived yet. Last edited by Redd; 05-10-2025 at 06:47 PM.. |

6k down isnt enough to make a dent in the interest so why would you even bother?

$6k down is roughly $100 a month. Unless you are reducing the term or rate of the loan significantly, I’d say keep the $6k in the market working for you. I would find the C8 you like and not mod it. If you get tempted to mod it, find a Z06 instead.

zo6 or nada. even though you will lose half in resale with the mods, you will get a lot of enjoyment out of more horse power if you are thinking performance mods. aesthetic mods are ok but are removable and sellable when you go to sell.
You will love way more on resale on the regular c8 and it will get old very quickly seeing old men waiving at you from their c8. like you I have been their, at the crossroads of boredom with my current car. We are without logic a lot of the times when it comes to cars, always wanting to experience something different just when we are at a satisfied level. save your money and get something worth getting. |

I completely read the question wrong. I thought the choice was 6k in mods for a new c8 or 6k down on a new c8. Lol

The C8 generation Corvette is a big roll of the dice. The DCT is still an issue 6 model years in. There was a post yesterday on Corvette Forum from an owner of a '25 Stingray with ~300 miles who lost all even gears in the transmission & his dash lit up like a Christmas tree. From what I've I read, they are still replacing transmissions instead of fixing them.
The DCT also requires an expensive service at 7500 mi intervals (the first is free). If you do not get it serviced within +/- 500 mi of the specified mileage, your warranty on it is void. Re: the Z06. As with all previous generations of Z06 (I own one) there are engine issues. There is a sticky thread on CF of Z06 engine issues hundreds of posts long. Personally, I have a friend who lives down the street with a brand new Z06 with Z07 pkg, HTC, full carbon fiber aero, decked out with an MSRP over $180k that just had to have the engine pulled with 1,049 miles. There are a lot of lemon-law & GM buy-back posts on Corvette Forum. One member RapidC84B has had 2 bought back by GM for quality control issues, and experienced some issue with all 5 C8s (Stingrays & Z06s) he's owned. Appearance is subjective, but the rear end of the C8 is the ugliest Corvette rear end ever made. The interior is still cheap & to get what comes standard (interior & options) on an M2, you will need to select the 3LT interior option for ~$11k. Let's not even talk about Chevrolet dealership service experience. It's awful. My Z06 has never seen a Chevy service department, nor will it. Having owned several Corvettes (and still own one) along with a couple M vehicles, I'll take the Ms over a C8 Stingray every day. *I've been a Corvette fan my entire life. I've owned Corvettes, my 3rd garage where my Corvette is parked is adorned with Corvette stuff. I drove 1,400 mi round trip to visit the Corvette Museum & have my Corvette given the museum deliver experience, etc. All that to say, I love Corvettes, but this generation is too much of a crap-shoot for me to spend my money.

JABCAT is right on all fronts. The C6 was the best Corvette generation, and yes I am biased but JABCAT will agree and is also biased, lol.
In the end it depends on what's important to you. Sound, or driver engagement or luxuries or space or newness or whatever. |

i'd rather buy the better car than spend money on mods.
mid engine with a 6.2L v8 is far superior to front engine 3.0 twin turbo in terms of anything performance related. other than roll racing

There are versions/years of every generation that I like & would own. I'd love to have a '63 split window or a '67 convertible. There are also great examples of late C1s ('60-'62). A '69 big block would be cool, and a C4 ZR1 and/or Grand Sport. For the C5, the '03-04 Z06 could find its way into my gararage. The C7 manual GS (in the C4 GS paint scheme) with Z07 pkg is a great car. I almost purchased one, but my heart was set on an inferno orange metallic Carbon Edition Z06 from the moment I saw it revealed in 2010. The C7 Z06 & ZR1 are also great, but don't look as good as the C6, imo. I was ridiculously fortunate to find not only a Carbon Z06 in Inferno Orange Metallic, but 1 of only 3 that have the Callaway pkg. I was able to pick it up for a stupid low price, so there was no way I was passing it up. I'm not a front engine/rear wheel drive purist either, I love mid-engine cars. But the C8 is a bad copy of a 360 Modena just with sharp edges. It looked cheap & old they day they revealed it. Re: engine issues. GM/Corvette has had them since at least the C5 with the LS1/LS6. I had 1 LS1 replaced under warranty (huge hassle), and another car was exhibiting the same symptoms, so I sold it. I loved that car too, a 1999 Hugger Orange Camaro SS hard top (no t-tops), 6-speed manual with white leather interior. I had that car when my first two kids were born, and it killed me to sell it. C6 Z06 has major engine issues. Knock on wood, mine hasn't yet. But I know it'll cost me ~$8k to preemptively fix the engine. One of the reasons my Z sees only a couple hundred miles a year. The C7 Z06 had overheating issues which was fixed on the ZR1. The C8 has DCT issues & engine issues. That's why I said in my inital response, it's really a crap shoot. My money will not being going toward a C8 of any trim/model.
