I'm out...canceling my order

Well, guys, I've finally made the decision to cancel my i4m50 order. As many know, I was one of the pre-order customers in June '21. I've had 12 production dates moved and the last straw was being moved to week 4 in January. This is completely unacceptable and frustrating. Especially, watching others get their vehicles before me while ordering them after me. The whole process has been poorly managed with the lack of transparency.

I haven't officially canceled the order. If anyone is interested in taking my spot, please message me by Friday. If not, I will cancel the order out right. Good luck to everyone. I will wait for the next generation!

I feel you Haywood. I just got a call from Mercedes dealership who I placed a deposit down for an EQE 500 a few months ago. They told me the car will be built in Feb. If BMW doesn't get their act together soon and the EQE arrives. I might end up going that direction.

Of course, it won't be a BMW i4. And it'll be slightly more expensive. But speed wise, it'll be comparable. And I'm sure comfort and build will be far superior to Tesla.

I am so sorry. So frustrating, especially seeing people get their cars after you placed your order.

I too am at the end of my rope.

June 1, 2021 pre-order.
I was the first at my assigned dealer.
I was first to configure and first to get a production number.

Car was scheduled originally for a May 21 build. Delay, delay, delay and more delays. I'm not buying shortage of 20" wheels because people aftere have gotten 20" wheels.

Every option ony cat has been delivered so right now BMW is full of excrement for not priorizing cars that came in on the first wave or pre-orders that were promised by Spring.

I don't call the Genius Line because they don't know Jack Schitt. My car has been scheduled for production 6 or 7 different times. I forget. It currently has been scheduled for 8 weeks as of tomorrow. Going into the 9th week.

Does anyone know of any car that has sat scheduled for 8 weeks or longer?

There is no business, production, supply or logical reason for a preorder system to take first orders and put them last in the production queue, openly do it consistently and deliberately for months in a row, and without communication or compensation to the customer placing the order. Incomprehensible.

I am really pissed for you, and it is not even my car.

You can actually buy an m50 from a dealer now. I just did it with a dealer in the Bay Area. I also get daily calls from other local BMW dealers saying that they have cars coming available. I also see plenty of available m50 in SoCal dealerships

Yeah, but it's not the one the OP ordered. It also puts OP at a price negotiation disadvantage. And they would lose the promised APR.

Close. One of my last flips was on 9/21 that I was scheduled for production for W42. Then as we were getting close it flipped to order received (status 111) on 10/10, just to flip back to status 112 on 10/12 and it has been there since. So starting 8th week now and no production week on sight. Haven't asked CA or genius and not sure I want to anymore.

I don't want any M50, I want the one I ordered.
I want tanzenite over cognac or tatufo leather with carbon trim and all the options including 20" wheels.

If I was willing to settle I wouldn't have ordered and just waited for inventory. I pre-ordered because I have always bought cars off the lot and for this time with a new model, I wanted "my" car.

Maybe I sound like a spoiled brat but for almost $90k including tax and license, I'm not willing to "live" with what's on the lot.
This is the most money I've spent on anything outside of real estate and stocks.

Sorry to see you go Haywood .Having just gotten mine I can tell you it's worth the wait and more.

I'd say don't do anything and just see how you feel when it gets here, you can always walk away then (or no?)

I'll give you a positive reframe if you'll take it. IDrive8 still has some minor (yet annoying) quirks that will all likely be fixed by the time you get your car.

This seems to only be in Cali, and they won't sell new cars out of state, at least not to me. I've called so many and I get the same reply.

Thanks, man. Believe me, you don't have to sell me on the car. I love it! I've had a chance to take it for a weekend a couple of times. That's the frustrating part about it. I thought about just waiting, but it's not worth the aggravation anymore. As Technic said, it's inexcusable that BMW didn't commit to filling the pre-orders first and rewarding those customers who put a deposit down on a car that you didn't get to see.

In addition, I don't want to put that many miles on my M5 and my M3 is being fixed to sell. So, I decided to pick up a 2019 i3s BEV. Fun, around town car will be fine for a few years until the next gen i4. Hopefully, by then, they'll have their shit together and we won't have these global supply chain issues.

Where are these M50s at SoCal dealerships? I haven't seen any on lots; just advertisements online, but when you call the dealers they say the cars are still in transit or have been sold.

I had BMW Escondido and San Diego ask if I wanted to pick up someone's order they didn't want. Both cars were basically maxed out with frozen paint and some M Performance Parts so they were around $90k MSRP. They look really nice but I don't want to own matte paint. Granted, I bought an M50 from one and have a reservation down with the other so perhaps they're willing to give me first dibs.

I know how you feel. I saw cars arriving weeks before my car that were produced a month after mine. Those cars got the handsfree hatch back when mine didn't! So that is a another benefit of getting an i4 now. But yes, I just sold my i3s, and it was an awesome car with a stupendous turning radius.

I feel defeated just trying to get an Allocation #. I see people who just ordered a few months ago get allocation and I've been sitting since Early March. Its getting harder and harder to not just go elsewhere (NOT BMW).

For weeks and weeks now, maybe even a month...Bob Smith in Calabasas and Pacific BMW in Glendale have had 1-3 new i4 M50 in stock and ready for sale. And up to 12 e40 i4 too! They even have 5+ iX ready for sale!
