Phantom drain from one week trip

iX50 in my home garage, Model Y in the airport parking garage.

Being the obsessive person I am, I checked both vehicles every day with the respective app during my one week trip. For the iX, this meant sending an unlock and lock remote command each time, since "Check Status" wouldn't update the date/time stamp.

The BMW started and ended the week at 48% - no apparent charge loss. For the Tesla, I started at 86% and ended at 85% (Sentry mode and Cabin Overheat protection off).

I had my Model S at the airport parking lot for a week. I started with 190 miles range and came back with 50 miles range! Yes, sentry was off. I barely made it home. Never again.

When my Model S was held hostage for 6 months, awaiting an air shock replacement, I brought it in at 90% charge. They didn't put it in service mode, so I was able to check on it from time to time. I called them when the charge got down to 10% to remind them to recharge it, unless they wanted to replace the battery, too. This happened 4 times over 6 months.

I’m in a garbage model 3 loaner while my iX is being repaired. This thing, with sentry mode off, loses about 3% charge every day. It’s so, so dumb. That’s over 1 megawatt hour of energy per year.

When I went to the Florida Keys a few weeks ago, I was gone for about a week and didn’t lose one single percent of battery charge.

i believe there are several configuration settings that you can change in order to minimize the vampire drain on the car.

Turning off sentry mode, cabin overheat protection, and a few others.
Here is a link to one of these lists: https://help.tessie.com/article/77-e...-phantom-drain

Below is the list of things you need to do to minimize the drain on the ix:

I'm not sure how you got your Model Y to lose only 1% over a week. Model 3 and Y owners in my group regularly report 1%-2% loss DAILY and that's with Sentry mode turned off. You definitely want to keep cabin overheat protection ON because Tesla does not use automotive-grade touchscreens in its cars. The screen will de-laminate after a few years if you don't keep the interior under 100ºF. This is just one of many areas where Tesla skimps and owners don't realize it until too late.

Maybe because it was at the airport parking lot, and not in my garage where our phones, keys, bluetooth etc. would activate the vehicle.

Also, to be fair, I did have Sentry Mode/Cabin Overheat on the first day. I counted the 1% loss AFTER I disabled those.

Also, pink is not the color of my vehicle - that's my daughter's doing.

Yup, I do keep it on. And I wish the BMW had something equivalent.

What sucks is when I prepay for garage parking so my vehicle won't be in the sun for a week, but then the only free spaces are on the top level of the garage, so I've paid extra for it to be in the sun anyway!

Well, it had a nice view for a week.

never considered one since inception on the Model S. I was on the fence between another 5er and a model S. Sat in one, was underwhelmed, took it for a ride and wasn't impresed in driving dynamics except for straight line 0-60 acceleration. Bought an F10, and kept BMW since.

Actually, it should be much worse at an airport than your own garage, at least for me it is. If you ever walked by someone else's tesla while having your key on you, you will notice that tesla's light will turn on for a bit and then off. The car senses the Tesla key and then realize that it is not the right key and then turn off. At an airport, there are tesla owners coming and going all the time and that will turn your car on and off all the time, at least that is my theory. My airport drain has been the worst when I parked at the EV spot, but there are no available chargers available, so I am surrounded by a bunch of other Teslas (and their owners will come and go).

I did wish BMW has an optional cabin overheat protection, for when I am at the airport and do manage to get a charging spot, I can safely leave that on. Besides that, it's better to come back to a 100 degrees cabin than a 120 degrees cabin.

Interesting. Yup, my vehicle being on the top (outdoor) deck not near a charger probably meant there were minimal walk bys by other Tesla key holders, which could help explain the minimal drain.

I wonder if the same theory applies to our iX.

Absolutely. This is what I hoped BMW would do - pick up on desirable (software) features from other vehicles and implement them. I fear I expected too much.
