I just purchased a used 2019 BMW i8 roadster. It has IDrive 6.

I believe it has built in support for Apple Carplay, but not for Android Auto.

I have an android phone and have been using android for years. Not about to switch to apple right now.

Is there any add on downloadable android auto client that is available through BMW or google for the BMW i8?

Otherwise, I will have to purchase and install an aftermarket device to add this functionality in a separate box.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

I am in South Florida, and if someone could please refer me to a reliable company or person who can help me install an aftermarket device to enable android auto.

it's not possible without external device, there are 2 options
- mmi box (this acts as a middle man and uses build in screen)
- entire new screen (this gives you better experience since you have normal android and you can install any app and run them in parallel, the downside is that OEM system can now be only interacted with knob wheel and buttons since touch screen works only for android part)

Whilst this is an Andriod operation system...it does not support Andriod Auto
