11/2024 OTA

Has anyone gotten 11/2024 OTA after the initial wave in December?

I think they may have suspended that OTA. There were several posts with a 12V error that required a dealer visit. Then no more posts about people getting OTAs.

That explains it as I saw people reporting getting 11/2024 OTA in December and then it all went kind of quiet.

I never got it. I checked for an update yesterday and nothing. Based on this thread, I’ll wait for the iX to notify me.

Got 11/2024.30 OTA on spouse's iX M60 a couple of days ago (mine was dealer-installed a few months back). No issues (AFAIK) and benign install.

Seems ota is like snail mail in the midwest, I just received 07/2024.40. It downloaded by itself and installed with my approval. Hopefully 11/2o24 will follow shortly.

I am one of those people who got the first wave but I'm still stuck in the 12V error state. Would love to be able to participate in OTA updates instead of seeing "The starter battery charge status is too low to start the installation. Please charge your vehicle's battery, e.g. by driving for an extended period of time." every time I get in the car.

OTA updates had been flawless until this update. Car has been in service but no successful outcome, yet. I was told I am storing the car for too long so the 12V battery has died but the car is never stored. After charging it while in service, the error popped up again.

Has anyone been able to break this or is forcing the update the solve? Is this truly a bug or is the 12V battery to blame?

Why doesn't the dealer force an update? Do they even know how? Your dealer seems rather uneducated about EVs given that they don't understand how the 12v is charged in an iX. They think your iX is an ICE and needs to be driven to recharge the 12v. This is not the case.

As in most (if not all) EVs, the iX tops off the 12v as needed from the main pack. One does not need to drive the car for this to occur. The owner's manual makes no mention of needing to do anything specific to ensure the 12v is maintained other than keeping the main pack charged, as needed. I'm surprised a BMW dealer in California—land of the EV dream—doesn't know how EVs work.

They could also swap in a new 12v to see if that remedies the issue. I would think this should be covered under the warranty. Either way, there is no reason your car should be "in the shop" for this. It's a very clear and easy path to figuring out a solution. If they care to.

The rumor is that this is a defect in the OTA update and that it needs a dealer visit to force-apply the update, and that clears the error. Was the dealer unable to push the update; did they even try?

Thanks! I will be heading back to try both of these options. Not sure why the forced update was not done...it was what was requested and would have probably solved the issue.

@NomoTesla - I am with you...I do find it funny that this error in the IX states..."Please charge your vehicle's battery, e.g. by driving for an extended period of time."

Mine received the update to 11/2024.30 OTA then at my 2 year service, I got 11/2024.65 from the dealer.

Wow, a "dot 65" release is a big jump from the last time anyone posted. I think it was up to .50, or maybe .40. I wonder if this solves the 12V error and is fit for OTA again. But realistically, we are about to get the 3/2025 release, so the prior one may just get skipped for a lot of people.

I'll be passing on future software releases if they don't add new functionality or restore SYNC to how it worked previously. As someone who is permanently on iDrive 8, I see absolutely no value in continuing to install updates. In fact, if my dealer didn't do the steering rack SIB and force a software update, I wouldn't have updated from 3/2024. For iDrive 8 folks there is literally no reason I can find to update to anything after 3/2024.

If BMW wants me to update, they need to start giving me a reason.

About to get March update? Don’t they get released in July?

Historically, they have done 3 updates per year: March, July, & November. Those are available at dealerships right away, but OTAs lag by about a month. So the March release would hit OTA in the April-May timeframe.

I think I got the July 24 release in October last year or thereabouts and that is what broke several things. I am usually first to upload new software but will wait a long while before I update anything with BMW.

I thought Ford was bad at the beginning but they seemed to have upped their game quite a bit. BMW has a bit of work to do to gain people’s trust

At least they are doing OTAs... so many promised OTAs and are not there yet, like GM and Hyundai Motor Group. Not sure about Audi & M-B. Rivian & Lucid are doing OTAs, so BMW is in a small group.

Not sure why the OTA issue is so difficult…but I’m not a software engineer. That said Tesla has proven itself fairly proficient at OTAs….so we know it can be done. Very disappointing BMW can’t seem to figure things out. My last update 7xxxx broke the delayed charging function…and 4 months later it still is not fixed. Not a huge issue but should have been corrected long ago.
