CarPlay & Bluetooth Connections Broken - Started Last Week

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Starting last week, my car has broken its iPhone connection twice. Both times, I had to forget the connection from phone & car and completely reconnect. I briefly saw a message like "Bluetooth not compatible," but it was quick and I missed it. When I tried to manually reconnect before deleting the connecting, I got a general Bluetooth won't connect type message. This may have started with the recent iOS 18.3.1 update, but I cannot remember the exact timing.

I am curious if any other iPhone users are experiencing this.

(This would not be the first time Apple released an update that broke Bluetooth connections with BMWs.)

No issue here. In fact, got in the car this morning for the first time in 10 days after getting back from vacation. Everything worked perfectly.

Can confirm that 18.3.1 is working well.

Occasionally when I exit the car whilst running ACP and then get back in relatively quickly it will take ACP some time to restart, although phone function seems otherwise fine. But it has been this way ever since I got the car.

Do you have a thumb drive or anything else in the USB jack under the armrest? I had recurring issues with my iPhone (and my wife's) "forgetting" the Bluetooth/CarPlay connection to the iX whenever I had the USB drive inserted. Once I removed it, the issues vanished.

Nothing. It has been perfect for over a year. And perfect since I swapped to my new iPhone last September. Until last week and then again this morning.

Nothing changed I can think of except the latest iOS update.

I'm on 18.3.1 as well and no issues here.

I've experienced this a couple times:

1) One time, when my friend borrowed my car for a couple of days, I added his iPhone as a guest to my car, and he drove around and used his own CarPlay/Apple Maps. Then when we got into the car together, I was not able to pair my phone back to the iX at all. He even tried completely removing this phone from the iDrive phone registration and I still couldn't pair my car. I tried everything I could think of to force it to pair. Ultimately, I had to do a soft reboot by holding down the volume button for a minute, and I was able to pair again.

2) Another time, I had a friend in my car as a passenger. I did not make him a guest to my iX, but for some reason, his iPhone connected to my CarPlay. I was not able to connect to CarPlay at all while he was in the car. I just used the BlueTooth music for our trip because I couldn't figure it out. Later after my friend exited my car, I suddenly was able to pair my CarPlay again.

It's still a rare occurrence, so I can't figure out the pattern yet. But there seems to be a bug where other iPhones running CarPlay can sometimes cause confusion and interfere with connectivity with the main iPhone paired to the iX.

Apple just released an update that fixes a CarPlay defect I suspect they broke in their January update.
