18-speaker Harman Kardon Surround Sound System Speaker Location

So, bmwusa.com has the following description for the Harman Kardon surround sound system speaker location:

“The 655-watt, 18-speaker Harman Kardon® surround sound system includes 5 tweeters, 5 midrange speakers, 2 central bass speakers and 2 subwoofers under the rear seat unit - all complemented by four built-in speakers in the rear head rests.”

So, where are all these speakers/tweeters located? I see 1 speaker cover in each door - are there multiple speakers/tweeters under it? I assume that’s part of the 5 tweeter/5 midrange speaker combo but there must be another pair in addition to the 4 doors. 2 central bass speakers are under the speaker cover in the center of the dashboard? 2 subs are under the rear seats and nothing under the front seats? Any more subs somewhere? Are there really speakers in the rear head rests?

Yep, there are, which I would assume would make it a pain if they have to be replaced. They got very “creative” with speaker placement on the iX, the rear subs are technically installed from below the vehicle, meaning if they have to be replaced, the battery has to be removed. The Bowers/Wilkins adds 4 more speakers to each front seat as well.

But yes, each door has one midrange and 1 tweeter, plus one of each in the dash. Each rear headrest has 2 speakers, plus the 4 floor mounted subs make up the 18 speakers.

Thank you. That’s exactly what I was looking for. So, all 4 subs are in the floor - 2 in front of the front row seats and 2 underneath the rear seats?

Correct. The front 2 are in the usual spot they have been in for years in BMW models, the rear 2 like I mentioned are under the rear seats but are installed from underneath the vehicle.

Thanks. Yes, I checked and saw a sub under each front seat next to the floor vents.

Hidden speakers is part of “ShyTech”:

What is ShyTech?
ShyTech remains largely in the background, only revealing its function when in use or explicitly needed. This invisible intelligence can be experienced in many details throughout the exterior and interior.

Exterior ShyTech features include, but aren’t limited to: the intelligent kidney grille (housing advanced sensors, cameras, and radar technology), flush-fitted door handles with touch buttons, a rear-view camera integrated into the black ring of the BMW roundel, and a hidden filler under the front BMW roundel for windshield washer fluid. Some of the interior ShyTech features include: speakers hidden behind acoustic fabric, radiant heat in the dash and door panels, visually minimized buttons and controls, and touch-sensitive surfaces in open-pore wood.
