Highly unlikely that insurance will total the car. May not have been speeding but must have been traveling pretty fast to have done this kind of damage…

Pressed alloy suspension arms aren't very strong. Hitting a curb at the "wrong" angle at 20mph could easily do this damage.

Yes, those parts are strong in the intended directions, but weight optimising their design means they get sensitive to abnormal loads...like hittng a curb.

They are also stiff, much stiffer than steel...but also brittle.

Curb impact can be a real issue - I agree with Setright. I slid out on wet pavement on a tight turn in my i5M60 in winter and hit the curb with front and rear drivers side wheels - fairly sizable insurance job that required two new wheels and replacement of a range of suspension and steeering components. I wasn’t going crazy fast, but there’s a lot of mass behind these EV’s and these components are engineered to take those kinds of forces in those directions. Very much repairable though, but you may be waiting on parts from Germany (as I had to). I expect 2-3mo, and depending upon whether they replace steering gear, you are probably looking at north of $20K.

If the frame is OK and the battery is OK, the car isn't likely totaled. Suspension is relatively easily replaceable, as are body panels.

And yeah, a solid thwack on a curb at the wrong angle... you break stuff.

Insurance may total it.

I had a vehicle hit in the front and had similar damage.

They didn't want to take a chance on transmission/drivetrain damage.

What do you mean insurance doesn't want to cover it because you didn't tell them who lives in your house?

You mean you didn't disclose licensed drivers that live with you?
