LMAO
So many trolls out around here. Must be a full moon. I love all the, "I could do/buy this or that, if I wanted...". So, go do it loudmouths and leave the real car guys alone. Much like me, most of us "old guys" here, who now own the breakthrough i8, have also owned dozens of other high performance icons. So we've already been there, done that. We live, we drive, we learn and have a load of fun doing it! Others can only dream.

Those that could buy a 140k car would choose the 911? I'd prefer it that way actually. I'd feel real stupid to buy a well optioned 911 C4S for 140k only to trade up 2yrs down the road with 8k miles for 90k for the "new" 991.2 C4S lol.
Most people that could buy a 140k car could buy and do also have another sports car. Different cars for different purposes kid. It's not a matter of having to have one versus another for those that could. Quote:

I don't get why on earth this car is being compared to other sports cars all the time? And by the way it has lost every single comparo on a track since it's been released and people still find excuses to glorify it. That is still ok for me but please stop calling it a sport car of the future! If the future of sports cars is to charge them, go do one lap and finish as the last one then I stay where I am now. What is good about this car? A complete sports car needs to be received with all senses. 1) Appearance. Ok some like it (including me) some not. We can't argue about it 2) Engine. 3 cylinder power plant plus fake sound. It is not even enhanced sound. It is pure fake soundtrack that could be any engine. Check videos on YT how that thing sounds with no audio. That is really pathetic. I couldn't own a sport car like this just for this one reason. 3) How it drives around a track we know already. It is not a track car. Runs out of e-juice quickly. 4) Drivetrain. What is the point of putting hybrid technology if it's not fuel efficient? City driving 8-9l/100km? Come on. Highway driving is just dragging extra weight of batteries and motor. I'd rather have this car 200kg lighter with 2.0l turbo and proper suspension set up. That would be a killer. Let them keep all that technology for i3 like cars unless they plan to build something that could be at least half as good as 918, P1, etc. Comparing it to X5 was sarcastic. At the moment I am set for my needs. X5 family truck and in a couple of days 991 GT3 for trackdays. Don't need anything more. Sorry that I am not calling all crap being released by BMW chocolate like most people here. I was a long time diehard for BMW. Dreamed long about BMW and eventually when my finances let me go for it, I lived this dream very short. Only E92 335i and E92 M3. Tried to convince myself long for M4 but couldn't. That's it. Now BMW is as ordinary as Merc or Audi. I'd take whichever looks better. They all cost the same. |

Go and drive one and then we can chat.
How relevant is it talking about track driving all the time? You drive what 1% of your time at best on a track. I had porsche 964rs, porsche 996 gt3's etc... Was miserable outside of the track 99% of the time because they are a right pain in the backside. Now... I looked so coooool with my friends! Those for sure would have kicked the @rse of an i8 on track day in day out. I don't give a fck nowadays! It would have bothered me aged 20, not now aged 40. There is real life (on the road) and theoretical life (max performance and track performance available in ideal conditions). I live in the former. In which the i8 makes sense. Have you experienced one outside of magazine pages? Sincerely, for yourself? You omit a lot of factors in your analysis demonstrating that you have no idea how the i8 works. Did you know that it recharged itself at 90% of its battery capacity within 15-20 minutes of spirited driving. Unless you drive like a complete loon on track 100% of the time, you will have plenty of chances to replete the batteries. The only point i would agree with you is that it is pointless to try and compare it to all and every cars on track. The chassis is extremely well balanced and there is no doubt that it would be fun to drive it on a track. But it's not its natural habitat. Quote:

You're just being way too serious I think. It's a just novel toy for most i8 buyers. None of us care about mileage and we certainly don't care how it compares to other sports cars. Judging from the huge demand in the marketplace, it's going to be a popular choice for some time to come.
Hey, I don't think buying a Bentley or Rolls makes sense either. As far as i8 being sports car of the future, I think there's a lot of truth to this. Even the new GTR is rumored to be coming out with a hybrid system. Racing scene is adopting this too. Just look at KERS being adopted. Gas only might become a thing of the past just like naturally aspirated cars and single clutch automated manuals. Quote:

I think he does have a brand new X5 diesel. I have a 2011 same model. How much are they in London? I paid $47k USD brand new when eco-credit was around (got about $12k in total discounts). New X5 diesels are about $70k here I think (with leather/navi and cold pkg options).

This thread has taught me two things:
1. Avoid the i8 owner groups if I ever buy one. 2. Do my best to avert being a grumpy geezer when I'm old and have lots of cash sitting around. :

By the way, I think your 335is is the most overpriced M3 wannabe.

We "old geezers" who are over 12 are apparently enjoying ourselves a lot more than you. You are wasting your time here being a troll (and a bad one at that). Go out and drive around, enjoy your car, enjoy your life. Doesn't matter what it is. I know I do. Being "old" has many advantages. Least of which is wisdom. Now run along and go play with your toys. |

I'm 22, I don't have nearly the resources you guys have, but I'm doing very well for my age and hope to keep it going. I merely suggested that if a person could spend $140,000 on a car (Not with the background that they are worth $10M+ and could buy many cars, mind you), I thought many more would choose the competitor in this thread, the 911. For some reason, that awfully offended some people. I had to play along and have some fun with what I assume are older frustrated owners who wish to justify their purchase. That's fair enough. Although if someone wants to call the 335is an overpriced 'wannabe' M3, I'll be happy to defend my choice too! Cheers.

I do feel a bit older nowadays but being 37 years old I'm probably not quite popping blue pills out of necessity, that's great you recently passed the legal drinking age. I remember those days..
