Heh, was literally about to post this.
Kyle's review was one I was waiting for, given his background and knowledge of EV's. I'm pretty sure he enjoyed it! This car is growing on me... |

Yes, he is good. Like all reviewers, he has his biases and his quirks. IMO, he's a little too concerned about "getting the tail out" on cars that really aren't designed to do so, like this one. This car doesn't need ESC off unless you're trying to get un-stuck, lol.
But overall, he's one of the best EV reviewers out there, based on his experience plus his review style and ability to convey information. |

Agree that not having this in iX is a missed opportunity. |

I expect BMW to take notes and plan for more changes in Year 2 of iX production to remain competitive. Adding a frunk does appear to be a significant engineering change.

Just drove an iX40, let me tell you that I'm still thinking that this is not the right time to switch to electric, i rather wait another 5 years until technology will be more mature, batteries will last much longer, and cars for that reason will be less expensive, that's my honest opinion
Back to the car, it's the smaller engine of the iX, power it's around 350Hp, very very impressive, torque is crazy, interior is better quality than expected, very silent on rough roads, Harman Kardon stereo is a must, seats are super comfortable, interior size feels wider than my X5, rear seat space much better than X5, the only issue is the rear trunk space, is too small for such a large SUV, i think is smaller or equal to my wife's Q5, not kidding

It is only a "missed opportunity" if they have tons of space under the hood and not using it as a frunk. And this is not the case here.
It is purely an engineering and a design choice. Maybe related to the fact that iX is using a modified ICE platform. But the space under the hood is fully utilized for its components. For example, it is their design choice to free up the space under the dash, and no central tunnel between driver and passenger (so you can squeeze from driver to passenger side like in a mini-van). I am sure that they do this partly by relocating things from the cabin to under the hood. |

The other scenario is that, the Germans are just not smart enough to design technologically advanced system like what the others can to incorporate a frunk. It's not that hard, just that they are not smart enough. The one reason I say so is just how heavy the BMW EVs are. The i4 and iX are just stupid heavy. I am also 100% sure there is none of the so-called advanced tech under the hood as BMW claimed. It's just horrible design decisions by Germans who think they know better than everyone in the world. |

You wouldn't have a picture of the trunk? I have yet to see one of these but we use our X5 for road trips and tend to use all of the trunk space, including the underneath, hence why I didn't spec the spare. If it is really that small, what a disappointment. Same with the omission of the frunk….

Check this website, has great information of the specifications of any car, maybe you can use it to compare the iX against a car you own or you have accessed to it, cheers https://ev-database.org/car/1472/BMW-iX-xDrive40

I went and watched Autogefuhl reviews of the current X5 vs. the iX. The dimensions of floor space are virtually identical, as is the height to the cover. iX: Floor length, seat backs to hatch - 1m / 40" Width - 1m 5cm / 41 / 42" Height to cover - 47cm / 19" Overall height - 75cm / 30" X5: Floor length, seat backs to hatch - 1m Width - 1m 10cm Height to cover - 45cm Overall height - "almost" 80cm It does look a lot boxier though. The rear hatch is much more upright and it looks like the sides don't come in as much. That's why I hate relying on figures and measurements. |

Interesting finding, maybe the opening of the cargo area makes it feel smaller….thanks for your feedback
