Here are the details: From now on, a car must have a base Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) that is less than $55,000 (previously $45,000). Higher-priced versions of these vehicles, up to a maximum MSRP of $65,000 (previously $55,000), are also eligible. Furthermore, larger zero-emission vehicles—such as SUVs, minivans and pick-up trucks (we’re looking at you, Ford F-150 Lightning) must have a base MSRP under $60,000. More expensive versions, up to a maximum of $70,000, can also get the rebate. From https://www.guideautoweb.com/en/articles/65561/ |

When I ordered my 3 series back in 2013 I could get some info like the boat the car was going to be on from their site using my VIN and could then track that boat using a different site. I literally had an iPad next to my screen at work dedicated to tracking the boat all day. Fun times. |

Materials shortages... chip shortages... nothing that wouldn't be solved by lowering ludicrously high executive pay, capping profits, and raising everyone else's pay. The sad truth is the ones at the top would prefer to raise prices, cut production, and still cash in on their options, golden parachutes, etc. |

Sounds like your order went in about the same time mine did (also in Ontario, order placed in feb). My SA is telling me my build is slated for the first week in May and should expect delivery “by June”. I wonder if my SA is overly optimistic or they are all guessing?

When did you put a deposit down?

That's a much better timeline than me. I put my deposit down in July 2021 and got a July 2022 build date. They initially said to allow 2 to 3 months after build for delivery, but recently the sales manager estimated 4 weeks. I would think that they're making educated guesses based on recent experience with customer orders and shipping times from Germany.

My dealer hasn't charged me a deposit. Is this something that is required to secure a spot? He told me it was ordered and sent me the sheet. Never followed up for the deposit event hough I reminded him a few times.

My dealer didn't require a deposit and mine is in production - I suspect they think they can sell these as soon as they hit the floor. We've been customers at the same dealership for almost 20 years though, to the tune of a half-dozen cars or more (including shipping one we owned cross-country to a family member), but I don’t think we're a special case.

BMW NZ offers a dual deposit system. NZ$400 to get your name on a waiting list for dealer stock or cancelled orders or NZ$10k for a custom order build allocation. I was able to negotiate a a better deal due to my long-standing relationship with the dealership.

In the US that doesn't seem any different than a deposit for a normal purchase (usually $1,000), but I'm sure that varies by dealer. Usually refundable, but for some dealerships maybe not. In the case of my dealer, I took over someone else's allocation that they declined, so was already in the "order" queue, and I'm assuming the original orderer got his/her deposit back if they indeed had one.

I put a $1k deposit at my local BMW dealer in late Feb 2022. Got an order sheet and drive out price. No idea where I am in line or how many allocations the dealer gets each month. In retrospect I should have called around the 4-5 dealers in my area and ordered from the one with the shortest line.
