2023 BMW i4 eDrive35 Joins the i4 Lineup
BIMMERPOST NEWS The 2023 BMW i4 eDrive35 BMW grows the i4 portfolio with the introduction of the i4 eDrive35 Single electric motor to produce 281hp and 295 lb-ft of torque (preliminary estimates) Estimated 260-mile range Starting MSRP of $51,400 plus $995 destination and handling US deliveries expected to start in the first quarter of 2023 Woodcliff Lake, NJ – August 1, 2022… BMW continues to deliver on the promise to provide engaging and innovative electromobility solutions with the latest addition to the fully-electric BMW i4 range, the new BMW i4 eDrive35. The BMW i4 eDrive35 joins the successful BMW i4 eDrive40 and BMW i4 M50 and makes purely electric BMW performance more attainable than ever. US deliveries are expected to start in the first quarter of 2023 with a starting base price of $51,400 plus $995 destination and handling. The BMW i4 eDrive35 is driven by the same Gen5 eDrive powertrain technology found in the BMW iX and the other i4 models. In the i4 eDrive35, the single electrically-excited synchronous motor is fed by high-voltage batteries with an energy content of 70.2 kWh gross and 66 kWh net. The motor sends 281 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque (preliminary figures) to the rear wheels, resulting in an estimated 0-60 mph time of just 5.8 seconds. When fitted with the standard 18-inch aero wheels, the i4 eDrive35 is expected to deliver an EPA range of about 260 miles (estimated range of up to 260 miles according to preliminary BMW AG tests based on the EPA’s test procedure standards). Utilizing DC fast charging, the batteries can be charged at a rate of up to 180 kW and, based on early testing, owners can expect to be able to charge the HV battery from 10% to 80% in only 32 minutes. Inside, drivers are greeted by the dramatic BMW Curved Display, powered by BMW Operating System 8. The display unites a 12.3-inch information display with a 14.9-inch control display behind a single, seamless glass surface angled towards the driver. Standard and optional features and equipment are unchanged from that available on the 2023 i4 eDrive40, and the i4 eDrive35 will benefit from the full range of available ConnectedDrive digital services and over-the-air updates. Production of the 2023 BMW i4 eDrive35 will begin in the fourth quarter of 2022 at BMW Group Plant Munich. The first units are expected to arrive in the US in the first quarter of 2023. In the first half of 2022, BMW sold over 57,000 fully electric vehicles worldwide. The BMW Group is aiming for BEVs to account for fully 50% of global sales by 2030. 2023 BMW i4 eDrive35 – European Model Shown Below

40 miles less range on 18" I believe. So like FlamesofGold proposed I think this is just a slightly cheaper and weaker version to fit in the EV tax range.

edrive35 MSRP falls under the new MSRP threshold of $55,000. Edrive40 MSRP is $55,900.
Also, BMW wants to sell more EV's to the masses - this makes it a more affordable option. Still middle class and above territory. |

I assume this is the case as the price is lower and it would qualify under the new rules.

Given the real-world tests for the i4 eDrive40 and M50, the eDrive35 should still be more range than what most would need and if the only real difference is the output of HP and torque, makes the eDrive35 very attractive at a lower price point. I was set on the eDrive40 but the eDrive35 might just be the better buy - don't really care about the lower output figures.

Ppl keep assuming the details of that law are not going to change before it becomes final if that even happens. Currently the democrats aren't even sure they have all 50 democrats on board let alone enough Republicans to prevent a filibuster. There is a lot that will change for it to pass.

BMW didn't know what legislation in the US would look like back when the product planners decided to green light this model. This is just about having a less expensive offering available broadly around the world. The potential tax benefits in the US market is just gravy.

0-60 5.8 seconds, LOL sure, just like the eDrive40 does 4.8 even though BMW estimates 5.7 seconds.
Since these are preliminary range estimates, I'm also willing to bet it will rise like the other i4 models after their official EPA range certification, and in real world practice, will exceed the EPA number in normal (sane) driving cycles. |

The new proposed tax law in the US at present stipulates that it applies to EVs made in the US. Even without that subsidy this is a tempting choice. However what is absurd about the i4 is making Active Cruise Control and Driver Assist an expensive option. Honda across its new 2023 lineup includes in the base car and SUVs starting at $28k.

I think BMW is trying to do the Tesla Model. Come up with new models, collect interest free loans from people placing deposits for a year and then slowly start moving these models to customers. Its getting shadier and shadier. They cant even deliver the I4 e40 and M50's so far but have come up with E35, I7 and soon I5 when their production capacity is so abysmal !!! I get the price point might coincide with the new bill but this product wasnt conceived in 1 month, so this has been going on for a while. BMW Fix your damn production rate before you start releasing more and more models !!!
