Are people willing to pay premium to get an i4 M50?

I have my MY23 i4 M50 with almost all the options except for the tire package coming in about a month. Are people still willing to pay a premium to get one ?

In California, dealers will and are still charging $5-10k over for i4 M50. Many dealers (but not all) will sell an i4 at msrp.

iX 50 are still going for $5-10k over msrp. iX M60 is $10-20K over msrp.

If you can find an i7 in CA, be prepared for $20k++ over msrp.

You know what is funny the clowns at peter pan BMW have a radio Ad for winter sale and take a look at the i4 they say. Commercial just to get feet in the door.

Are they asking or are they getting over MSRP? Big difference. We have a couple of dealers here that will ask for the moon and I'm sure someone is falling for it but a little shopping is resulting in MSRP or slightly below. A family member just encountered Audi dealers asking for $5k for an EV but managed to do MSRP by going to another dealer. I see similar with local BMW dealers. MBUSA is offering incentives on the EQS which is also telling. Locally, there seems to be a pattern with one national chain in particular and one or two independent dealers following the lead of the big national chain.

There are occasional M50 inventories at local dealers sold@MSRPs, most are almost fully loaded, those can be alternatives to long waits on custom orders.

Our local dealers are getting it! Of course smaller markets and different states do not have the same demand as California. Dealers that are getting over, are ONLY getting over because there are enough people to pay over.

Markups are dynamic market pricing, so are steep discounts. I tend to prefer to be on the right side of the arbitrage.

E.g. last April local dealers charged $3k markup on Accord/Civic, so in that window a G20 330i@$6k-$7k discount was cheaper than an Accord Touring.

That is correct, if they lower it some, or get close to MSRP the customer will be thrilled. A Win-Win situation.

Or the other option is just wait and get exactly what you want at MSRP.

I prefer to get what I want and wait for it. It can be frustrating.

Tesla is cutting prices and I could custom order and have the M3 Performance delivered in about one month. I think the days of charging over MSRP for a BMW should be coming to an end.

Agree with high interest rates, lower fuel prices and decreased demand overall I'd say it's going to likely not be discount lease days again but over MSRP shouldn't be a thing

I’m not sure I truly understand why people are paying over. Silly question I know. Are these people stuck because a lease is ending? Do they really need to have the latest and just don’t care? Perhaps it’s just an example of poor money management. It hard to compete or argue with that. If someone is willing to pay stupid prices we get to deal with stupid consequences. If people would literally stop buying for a short period of time the problem will correct itself.
Sorry for the rant…I just struggle to wrap my head around some of these decisions. Then again look at 2020 to present.

Have you ever been to Disney or Universal? Doesn't matter which one since they all cost an arm and a leg to get in. Then ppl go ahead and give their kidneys up to have the extended family of 15 or so folks on a fast pass. So the answer to your question is all of the above.

If someone's time is otherwise worth $1000/hr., it is perfectly fine to save some time with a VIP pass or fast pass.

For someone making $1 mil/year, is 20k over asking for an 80-120k car worth it as opposed to waiting 6 to 18 months? It could very well be.

A bad decision for one person's situation can be a brilliant one for another's.

Sorry, that may hold water for scarce commodities. Yes someone making seven figures will be willing to pay a premium for something that is rare or has intrinsic value to that person. An i4 M50 is not that. Maybe it was at launch but not today. Dealers are asking for the markup and that doesn't mean they get it but there is always the exception.

There are at least two new i4 M50i's locally although online inventory shows 3 but I cannot confirm the third and one used M50i so take that for what it's worth. Obviously, local markets will vary but the cars are becoming more available and demand is softening.

If you can afford the car with a $20k markup over MSRP and don't want to wait, go for it. If you want to see if you can hit the $20k scratch-off by offering your car up then by all means go for it. You can justify the move however you need to in order to sleep well at night.

Is straight MSRP typical now for an i4 M50 build order?
I can definitely understand if the rare in-stock i4 M50 is going for an ADM, but with so many different dealers willing to place you on the waiting list for an allocation, wouldn't seem to make any sense for any dealer being able to get ADM on a build order.
