If we assume that BMW runs the OTA release a quarter behind the actual availability date then we should see 07/2023 in October. It’s too early now.

I just dropped off my ix at the dealer (South Bay BMW) to get the front seat head protector installed so my daughter does not have to sit at an angle…

Since I had to drop off for this install, I asked the SA to also have the technician run diagnosis for service faults to see if that was impeding OTA. The SA asked why I want an OTA. I indicated I have never received an OTA in the year I have owned it. He then asked if I know for certain there has ever been an OTA available for my exact configuration. I asked if he can provide me with a lot of every release and the configurations they apply to and he said they do not have that information. He then tells me he does not want updates on his iPhone. Has only accepted one in three years.

I am guessing he does not u detest and technology, not vulnerabilities, not to mention feature upgrade. Hopefully the technician will check for fault codes and remedy the issue, if it exists!

Is this the same dealership you went to before? Man, you need to pick another dealer. Have you tried talking to the service manager? This is unbelievable!

Sounds like some databases in the BMW cluster aren't updated, another win for "eventual consistency"!

Those are just cushions that get inserted into the headrest holes. Why do you have to take it in for an "installation"? It's literally just push the thing through the hole and done! lol

After 3 weeks at the shop and multiple software updates, I ended up coming home with 07/2023.45. I haven’t seen any the obvious differences when I dropped it off with 03/2023.65. Also got those ugly head cushions which was actually the primary reason for the visit. They require “proper fitment” in order to be reimbursed by BMW.

I did just notice that 07/2023.45 definitely added manual Battery Pre-Conditioning in the charging section which was not previously supported for vehicle’s built before November 2022.

Completely unrelated to this thread, but as someone shopping for an ix, are the headrests/upper seat uncomfortable?

It’s improved slightly on the 2024 models built after July. They did a minor redesign around the headrest area. If you’re over 6 foot tall like I am, you don’t really need the cushions - those are just a minor remedy they are giving to people that have the original seats. Either way, they are very comfortable seats.

I keep waiting for EV routing in Apple maps but I am losing hope. Maybe in the next SW release?

I’ve only driven my vehicle twice since the July update was installed and one of those times was coming home from the dealership, so I haven’t tested it yet. I’ll take a look on the next drive.

Mach-E and Taycan drivers have had EV routing in Apple Maps for a while. Looks great!! I thought we'd get something enabled with iOS 17, but I guess work needs to still be done on the BMW side as well. As we know BMW is very conservative with their upgrades, so we should be prepared to wait for a while longer!!

Oh, I misread what you were asking. I thought you were talking about Apple Maps in the instrument cluster which disappeared some time ago.

I picked my car up this afternoon and indeed had the head protection inserts installed. Definitely quality engineering and craftsmanship!

Regarding OTA and diagnosing fault codes…. They indicates that since my car has the 03/2023.65, there are no available updates and they do not have a reason to diagnose fault codes.

VirtualGuitars I guess you are right, time to divorce South Bay BMW. Problem is, other options take too long to get there. I work a pretty rigid schedule (early to late afternoon) and is hard to get there when open.

So still not OTA for me!

Technically you are on the latest version that’s available via OTA; however, 07/2023.45 is definitely available at the dealer. They updated my software four or five times with two different versions in the last three weeks during its visit. It went in with 03/2023.65 and then went to 07/2023.40 and then ultimately 07/2023.45.

Your phone or tablet will play YouTube natively on your 4G/5G network or through the eSIM in the car (if set up) on its WiFi network, on your device. Not on the main screen in the iX (at least not unless you have HU5 and 8.5 OS). You can sideload CarStream on an Android device and it will show up as an app on Android Auto that can be played on the main screen, with the issues inherent in sideloaded apps.

I have iDrive8.5 but no internet and eSim option in the vehicle (prohibited by law ).

So the only option is Android Auto and CarStream (through AAAD APK) ? 🙏🏻

Maybe - you don't need the eSIM or a WiFi connection for the CarStream app - it works with Android Auto which is part of the OS (and runs on the BMW native connection in the car). That said, I don't know that CarStream has been tried with v8.5 - I can verify that it works with v8.0 (and many other non-BMW OS in-car systems). I believe v8.5 comes with YT as a native app in the i7, however I don't have HU5 so don't know in the iX. Unless BMW (or Google) has placed some restriction on the new hardware/software, it should work, but realize that CarStream was tweaked and developed by the XDA community, so it has (essentially) no support, and as a sideloaded app it may stop working with any OS or AA update in the future, which with v8.5 will happen a lot.

Also don't take this as an endorsement for the app - It's obviously not in the Android (Google) Play Store lexicon (hence sideloaded), and in my experience works with the car in motion (which is not endorsed or supported by Google or BMW). It's a safe app (as far as malware concerns) and has some substantial tweaking behind it - it works with locked and unlocked phones - but it does involve some knowledge and experience with the Android OS and modifying your phone (like sideloading anything else), so "at your own risk" applies.
