When to sell the car?
First of all, I live in Norway.
I have an i4M50 from November 2022 (2023 model). As of today, I've driven 35000 Kms (21750 miles). Pretty much fully loaded, with individual leather seats and tanzanite blue, which is also an individual-ish color (more expensive than regular metallic colors). The car is ceramic coated and I have it very well maintained. I was looking at prices for used cars with about the same number of Kms, but without individual bits, and they go for about 10000 USD less than for what I bought the car (630K NOK vs 730K). I was also looking at new cars, and I could get a new one for 750K. So, if my intention is minimize potential losses, would this be a good moment to sell it, take the 10K loss, and avoid a larger one once the car has even more Kms on the clock, or is better to wait and see. On the financing of the car, I bought with 100% loan. Right now, I would make "making" about 5000 USD (considering how much I've paid of the loan) by selling it, which I can use for the new car. One other thing I could do is to negotiate a loan with a lower interest rate if I were to sell it today. Those of you who have experience with this, what would you advise me to do, keep my current car a bit longer or sell it and get a new one?

The longer you own a car, the more it depreciates. Usually depreciation slows down over time, but not always. If you want to do the most financially efficient thing, keep the car for another 9 years. New cars almost always cost more than keeping an old car.

Im in the same situation as you. Fully specced, individual interior. April 2022 delivery.
I decided to keep the car for 3 years despite the LCI and prices going down abit. My car would be 950k to replace, i paid 710 + 40k in ppf/coating/extras and got 450ish financed on it. Right now i feel like the 5 series is to expensive, and i still like the i4 to much to part with it prematurely. I will wait for 2025 and see what the neue classe has to bring. Even tho i came out of a G30, and was planning on ordering the G60 on day 1 of release, the i4 is just to good of a car to part with right now all things considered. I never thought i would have to pay more for the EV G60 basemodel than i paid for a well equipped G30 in 2018. But thats where we are right now. Even if they would offer a proper full extended interior on the G60 sometime soon, the Neue classe is to close. I will wait. And i love every km spent in my i4 still at 48.000km right now. Did you keep yours? 🤔 |

As a person who purchases cars to keep them I only part with a vehicle when I really don't like it or find something else I want more.
It sounds like you're looking at it from a money angle. Spending more money isn't going to save you any money. If you don't like the car dump it. But if it does what you want it to do and youre happy with it drive it till the wheels fall off. |

You're right about the Neue Klasse, though I'm not sure my next car will be a BMW considering how much they're sacrificing features to reduce cost and, at the same time, increasing prices and coming out with tedious designs. The i4 LCI cuts costs everywhere (look at that ambient light). I used to have a G20 and a G21 from 2019+ and those cars were so much quieter, had better and more interior features, etc. I see no reason to pay luxury prices for a car brand that's trying to become Volkswagen. As for the Neue Klasse, will see, I have absolutely no love for Tesla, and BMW seems to be following their lead at the interior department. If BMW doesn't change their trajectory to becoming a cheap-dress-as-luxury brand, I guess my next car will be some Chinese thing that I either change every other year or driving as that I don't care.
