Time slot charging

I have just purchased a BMW i5. The time slot charging is problematic. I was pleased to find this thread and read about everyone's issues. The solution is so obvious: time slot charging should be divorced from departure time. The car should start charging at the beginning of the time slot and stop charging at the end of time slot, or when the set charge percentage is reached, whichever is the earlier. None of us want to charge at peak rates, and yet the algorithm is set in such a way as to make this inevitable.

I don't know why they do this, but our Jaguar is the same. Engineers don't always make bright decisions.

Yes, I would prefer the simple Tesla approach which is exactly what you suggest. BMW seems to be trying to be too smart with their approach which is very unintuitive and hard to understand.

It is the same on the Taycan.
The charge aims to finish as late as possible before departure time.

But a lot of the time (say if ambient temperature drops overnight) you wake up to 'unable to reach target charge' in the morning.
This would happen nearly every night in winter.

Stupid system. Why not add some additional spare time in the design.

Software error with 24-07 regarding time slot charging. If you have issues with time slot charging, you need a software update to 24-11 at dealer.
