advice on 2 used cars M50
I am looking at 2 cars.
one just under 3 years the other just under 2.5 years. The older car has visibility pack, tech pro pack and comfort pack and M sports seats. just over 17,000 miles The newer vehicle at just over 10,000 miles does not have the m sports seats nor the visibility pack but has the tech pro pack and comfort pack the older car is £2000 cheaper both are bwm approved vehicles so will have warranty's in talks with both dealers and looking for best p/x price. the dealer of the newer vehicle who can access the other car says that the older car has had 3 owners which he states is somewhat unusual so would that be a red flag as 3 owners in less than 3 years seems odd. |

That sounds OK then.
Lots of BMW HQ cars have a number plate starting with Y. Effectively, they give them to staff to run round in for a few months then sell to the dealers with a good chunk off new price. They sell them as used. Did this for both our current cars after taking a bath on a new Taycan last time round. Can you get any dealer history on them as to any warranty work / recalls / repairs etc? Then try and push for a deal. Lots of used EVs not selling currently. Great cars by the way. Love my M50. Best car I've owned. |

it had its first major service at 2 years
dealer says the following as its had a couple of changes of registration number Owner 1 (most likely BMW but I cannot guarantee) reg = RJ22DPK Owner 1 assigned private reg “M50XMX” to the car and also sold it on this reg Owner 3 assigned their plate “XX20RAA” onto the car and then took it off once sold so now its back to M50XMX is that usual ? |

just carried out a car check
so first owner (probably dealer but not confirmed) put car up for sale on 02/02/23 - mileage was 6460 miles (car registered 14/04/2022) second owner then purchased car and placed private reg of M50 XMX on vehicle but only had car for 105 days before selling it on 6th September 2023 with the private plate. car then owned by last owner who placed their own private plate on vehicle of XX20RAA who then sold it too the current dealer after removing their private plate. so its only the second owner which is the odd situation as they only kept car for 105 days. I assume car is not a dud as last owner owned it for about 15 months. |

yes there are other cars but not the spec I want.
looking at the sales the 2nd and 3rd were through BWM approved scheme so I would hope the cars would be inspected as per the scheme if there are issues then i am likely to notice them during the first 12 months of ownership and then its BWM,s problem to sort out under the warranty. |

Why not get the (slightly) older car - it has the better spec and honestly in a year or so both cars will be looked at the same way anyway.

yes that's what i did - i went for the slightly older but fully speced model. Very impressed by the service at synter Sheffield.
car was immaculate - it was literally as good as new. no marks anywhere. my last vehicle was an approved audi s4 and that was only one year old but that was somewhat worn especially the seats which had creases all over the seat boolsters the M50 was perfect - they even put 4 brand new pilotsport 4 tires on it. its a great car to drive - i have to say on British roads it hides its weight well. seems more agile than my s4 was anyway. |

I think that was a good choice.
Mileage isn't too relevant on EVs, and a few months older is negligible. The laser lights are really worth having imo. I doubt you will miss the Audi...... I had a good few S3 S4 etc and I find BMW are far more driver focused. Enjoy it! |

the lights are great - i had matrix lights on the audi so wanted something as good which was one of the reasons I did not want a Tesla. I am surprised by how good the M50 handles. I have a great mountain road on my way to work which this morning was empty and i was amazed by the grip and confidence such a big car had going around bends. To me it felt more sportier to drive than my s4. |
