Turn off Audio Source without muting

Is there a way to turn off the music (radio, USB etc.) without muting the car? I trued pressing the volume rocker but it mutes the audio instead.

I would prefer to hear the iconic sounds by itself with no radio or music playing.

It's a tricky request because the iconic sounds use the same speakers as the music. Can I ask do you not use your phone for music? I guess you want a shortcut that doesn't involve pausing via your phone? What about a vocal command, "Hey BMW, pause the music."?

I am pretty sure you can hear iconic sounds with radio/music turned off.

Yes, but how do you turn the radio/music off? It's muted which means the speakers are muted.

I haven't tried asking the assistant but I'll give it a go. I don't usually use my phone for music. It's usually a USB with FLAC files or the plain old radio.

Even with the USB files there is no play/pause button which is surprising to me.

You’re right I just tested it right now in my car and I have music playing and I have iconic sounds on and I pressed the thumb wheel down to mute my music and iconic sounds continue playing so I was completely wrong here. It works exactly as you’d expect.

Does anyone actually like the Iconic sounds? My iX has them but I literally turned it off before even trying it when I collected the car I want silence from my EV. I want to hear the (actual) engine when I have a nice straight 6 or V8 etc

Yes. It's Hans Zimmer! I thought I would not like Iconic Sounds, but I kept them on for about a year. They are total fun. I eventually turned them off, because I prefer total silence. But the sounds themselves are awesome, and I occasionally turn them on again for a few drives.

Amen Brother
It’s really weird that people want to hear fake sounds when either pure silence or music or a podcast are all superior. Wish they had put whatever resources it took to create sounds into better acceleration or a small frunk or anything else really.

A little trivia here... BMW had Hanz Zimmer compose all the car's sounds, including the acceleration sound. Iconic Sounds are not fake sounds, like some automakers do with engine noise. They are music composed to complement the car's experience, like a movie soundtrack. It feels like you are accelerating into space, as if you were part of Interstellar.

This. Its not like they are "fake" sounds to sound like a real car. Its made with a purpose.

But I also like the sound of a V8 and the sounds of the wastegate opening

I thought they took away the Hanz Zimmer sounds because of a royalty dispute and substituted other ones in one of the software updates. No?

Not that I am aware of. Do you have a reference or citation?

No, I just remember reading something about it in the forums. Obviously it was fake news. I may have also imagined it. I'm at that age now.

I definitely have them in my 2024. Maybe it was "Hollywood Royalty" and not payment royalty?
