Retrofit newer gear shifter ?

Does anyone know if the gear shifter from the newer G26 is a plug and play item for the 2022 G26 ?

I believe some people have swapped them over, and that it takes some coding. I would check the major i4 forum.

The gear shifter that replaced the stick was introduced before iDrive 8.5 was introduced. So perhaps a gear selector from a MY2023 would work. Mine was built in May 2023 and I have the new shifter but the old iDrive.

I have a friend with a March 2023 build with 8.0 and I presume with coding it would work.

My car is a Jan 2023 build with the old shifter.

As much as this looks sleek .. if you previously had BMW's you will miss the stick. My hand just floats above the selector now....

Agreed, my car was delivered in feb 2023 with the old shifter and i'm glad it did. It's my normal resting spot for my hand.

I guess the new shifter would give more space for eating big macs in the car.

After having just had a curtsey car from BMW with one of those new style shifters in it I think I’m happy with the old style one.
