Center Screen Went Dark 2023 iX

When I started up my 2023 iX two days ago, the center screen went dark. I was able to drive but could not access any functions or navigation normally accessed through the center screen. I was able to use voice commands for some functions such as turning up the fan speed, but the AC was not working.

I found some older posts by others who experienced the same thing. Resetting the screen by holding down the volume button did not fix it. What did fix it was parking the car and leaving it alone for about 1 1/2 hours. When I came back, the screen was functioning again.

Do you think I should have my BMW dealer take a look at this problem? Or since the problem resolved itself there is nothing to do? I want to do all I can to minimize the chance of the same thing happening again in the future.

Thanks,
Joe

It could have been a one-off glitch. So, I would not worry until the next time it happens and when that is...

My personal experience is that every car I have owned in the last 20 years has a black screen glitch every year or two. They are infrequent, and just the nature of complex computers running complex code. They are issues to me when they happen more frequently, like several times per year. The volume button reset should have cleared it, but it is possible you did not hold long enough. No clue.

I have reported the same issue on my 2022 iX to the local dealer, and they placed an order to replace the headunit.
The headunit has arrived by still didn't take the car back to them. Planning to do so next week hopefully.

More likely a software glitch (sometimes just a blank screen, sometimes a blank screen with a white "BMW" logo in the center - probably due to a computer reset). Usually resolved with just a sleep cycle or a hard/diagnostic reboot. Not unique to the iX, this has been an "issue/finding/occurrence" with BMW models since at least iDrive 6. More rarely a problem with a faulty TCU (Telematics Control Unit). I wouldn't worry about it unless it reappears.

I had the touchscreen go dark 3 times in 3 months, but it has not happened since then (more than 5 months ago). When it did go dark, it came back to life within 20-30 minutes of driving. Almost like the screen had to go through some kind of reset cycle.
