2 Alpinas spotted out in the wild

Picked up my xb7 on Friday and happened to be parked next to another xb7. Mines the pre LCI. If you’re on this forum, nice car my dude!

I’m planning to get xpel stealth wrap on my MWM paint. Was thinking about blacking out all the chrome pieces but might just leave it since it doesn’t look bad. Loving this car so far!

It used to be a tuner/manufacturer that bought in BMW's and tune them to a high luxury level (interior, exterior and bespoke engines).
Now it's just a BMW luxury line that rolls of the BMW assembly plant ready made.

Wrong.

That's about to come in a couple years.

I like the chrome tbf. My Alpina is also MW and i've got black kidneys and am looking to swap them for chrome.

Got an XB7 right around the corner from me.

Apparently the privileged @$$h0le can afford the car but can't afford or is too special to register it since his temp plates expired in Dec 2024.

They've been doing some hefty fines to people for this lately. Kind of hope he gets nailed.

Clearly I'm in an @$$h0le mood myself right now

Don’t do anything to it. MW is good metallic. Xpel stealth looks better on alpine white because alpine has no metallic in it. If you wrap it, use regular (imho) xpel. enjoy your truck, just code laser lights and drive it across country. Leave everything else the way it is. Go easy on your right foot. pre-lci’s drink fuel like they just crossed the border; however they’re also a tad faster because they weight a little less.

here the bmw production line that assembles a XB7:

Yes, they fit a click in bumper insert (not even the complete bumper), sometimes with some adhesive, sometimes a spoiler, and the car mats and some click in interior trim in a separate area so they can claim stuff is done 'separately by hand'. But only a fool falls for that. It's a bit of a marketing facade if you ask me.
All the large bits of the interior like seats, engine, 'custom' suspension, 'custom' exhaust and other technical bits are done on the standard BMW production line. So Alpina's do drive off the BMW production line for a while now.
Not at all how it went at Alpina in Buchloe in the past, when actual engines, suspension parts, exhaust systems and complete interiors were fitted in Buchloe. There is still some engine assembly there (to bring to BMW's production line to be fitted there), but that's also over at the end of the year.
Manufacture at Buchloe wouldn't be possible now too....the amount of Alpina's made compared to previous times is way way bigger. I think they currently make about 3 times as much as they did 10-15 years ago.
To me, that makes an old Alpina way more interesting that the current ones.
I wonder which Alpina was the last one that had it's engine actually fitted in Buchloe. I think that marks the big turning point.

Agree 100%, somewhat akin to when M cars were hand assembled versus where we are today IMO. I don't know if they're still doing this, but if you have an older Alpina they kept logbooks of who built your engine and on what day(s) it took place. We hear chatter about what makes a 'real M car', the same is about to happen with Alpina. I have no plans to part with mine.

I'd like to know what the odds are of having two of these parked together anywhere in the world? Such a rare vehicle. To see two parked next to each other is crazy!

Alpinas in the UK are probably 10x the amount in the US. Since the 90s they have only made the B7. Only shortly after that did they start offering the B6/B8/XB7. I have seen so many E9X, F3X, F1X, etc Alpinas listed for sale or part outs in the UK it's unreal. Wish we got them here so bad, I would do heinously embarrassing things for a clean E91 B3.
