I personally ordered one of the last 2023 X5 to NOT have the new infotainment and loss of physical buttons.

Also BMW loves to pick stuff they have laying around in the parts bin too.
This is also one reason I cannot order a new BMW. The dashboard, the lack of the shifter and the overall interface that looks silly, which is too angular, bland and lacks any visual experience is a huge step behind. And the missing analog buttons is a HUGE no no for me.

The press should ask this same question specially for these limited run units that are selling for half a mil.
The answer is pretty simple: This is based on the 8er, and this platform is on iOS7.

You can coach-build the interior as much as you want, but changing the electronics would be prohibitively expense even for a 400k car. If it was feasible, I am sure BMW would have done it for the 8er some time ago.

Sorry, but back seats specifically built for matching purses? Speaking as someone who has owned a Panamera Sport Turismo and is looking at the GTC4Lusso… hard pass.

Edit: At the rumoured $500,000 price - I’d have to ask what they’re smoking in Munich.
Hahaha seriously that was my first thought too. Shame it doesn’t have rear seats.

What platform is this going to be built on?

Maybe they woke up and realized that people still like to push buttons?

at 400k this would have been a winner if it had a V12. V8 for 400k is a hard pass. BMW aint no ferrari

Crikey, it has an actual gearstick and not only that but a dash with a proper binnacle and leather surround, mercifully free of a massive generic iPad ready to be smeared with fingerprints. Where do we sign..?!

Interesting exterior but by no means very striking. I don't think anything similar will ever hit the sales floors anytime soon.

Whenever these limited run productions of concepts come out, the comments make me believe that some of you are either obtuse or have no idea what the point is.

This ^ Kinda

People aren’t acknowledging how complex & tightly packaged dashboards are - even though many have experienced how difficult changing 1 fkn cabin filter can be.

While hard points & underlying crash structures can (& must) remain the same for exterior changes - every single dash panel a person can slam into in a crash, needs to be tested & approved.

This old Rimac BTS video touches on this a bit (@ 16:16 mark), explaining how moving the HVAC a few millimeters can create a butterfly effect that can lead to suspension pickup points needing adjustment & so on & so on.

Regarding the scoffs at the rumored 500k price tag - Bimmer knows there’s a Goldilocks Zone. It’s where they not only recoupe some costs but also create a car that’s seen as at least being “worth” said price.

Would it get the same praise at a one-million dollar price point? Based on the dash, I’m guessing BMW isn’t betting on it.

So let me get this straight BMW…

THIS is what the front of the current M3/M4 (your most iconic and important platform) could have looked like?
