Agreed. But the principle is what ticks me off. We need to put the kabosh on a vehicle manufacturer's ability to remove or break features after purchase.

100% agree. They ruined a feature that the car had, that other, current BMWs still have. It is to me, totally unacceptable!

So, the sentiment is that we move backwards to the mid 90s when cars were not updated and basically locked in place forever as they were at time of purchase?

Maybe we should sue the automakers to force them to continually improve the cars over time so they get better after we purchase them, but forbid them from releasing software defects.

Or, maybe we should sue them to force every update to be reviewed by a consumer board, and a single nay vote from anyone cancels the release of a change.

Taking it to the extreme. If a carmaker sends out OTA, it should not ruin something the car came with and other models still have.

If the OTA ruins something, and this can happen and is part of OTA software....ok. Just fix it the next time. It is not acceptable for BMW to double down and let the OTA bug remain and call it a new feature.

It is what it is. Time to just accept reality that it will never change

Yeah, I was kind of going to the extreme to make the point that we have a choice of either little to no software progress or the risk that stuff we like could get broken or taken away. And all of us have something we are attached to that would suck if lost. I really wish that BMW could get the geofenced auto lock/unlock right, but that still sucks for me.

The great thing is that all this exists in a free market economy, so we are all to choose another car or automaker if we are unhappy with the way BMW does it. For example, I wonder if Rivian's or Lucid's sync has the same issues as the now standard BMW sync behavior?

I think software will be a significant differentiator in the next few years. Many of the legacy automakers are way behind the curve there, but GM is trying. GM really sucks right now, but they seem to be one of the very few legacies pushing toward frequent OTAs of material changes.

The Sync function will probably come back at the end of the year and they will call it a new/added feature.

Being German, this is VERY unlikely! Bringing back functioning SYNC would be showing it was done in error in the first place, and this is a no no for Germans

100%. Miele is the same way. There is only user error. No such thing as company making a mistake. Everything is "by design". Uh huh.

I thought it might be due to low readability of the crystal button since they have to have the printing on them (1, 2, set).

Could have looked better though.

The printing on the non-crystal seat memory buttons is absolutely as hard to read, and if you get the titanium/bronze interior trim, you still get crystal seat control and memory buttons.

Just strange the choices BMW makes sometimes!
