Help with digital key android

My digital key is no longer working as proximity access. Initially I thought it was “exclude home” function, so I unchecked that, no dice, I deleted the key and re paired it, no dice, I checked under my ID and it shows my phone as digital key. I do not have an option in my wallet that shows passive entry, although I’m not sure I ever did, but it has worked fine up until a few days ago, wtf?

You might try a diagnostic reboot (always recommended with any persistent software glitch), but failing that, start over - delete your digital key from the car, delete your phone from the car, delete the key from your wallet and reboot everything. Check to see if there is an update to Wallet, and set up your phone and DK again. You might check on updates before you do all that - you didn't specify brand but Samsung is notorious for software gremlins post-update. If you do have a Samsung, go to your Settings menu (the gear icon), About phone>Software information >Google Play system update and run that first. Check for an OS update. Your car software, your phone software or both can be causing the issue.

It is a Samsung, I think Galaxy S23 or 24? Phone is up to date, I did delete the key and re paired it but didn’t delete my phone from the car, I can try that, but I might reboot the car first, how do I do that?

A normal reboot (just like turning your computer off and on again) is to hold down the Volume Control button until the main screen goes blank and then release - this can take up to a minute or so. The system should restart and the main screen will come on again after a bit. It's a computer, so you may find this necessary occasionally if the system freezes or just acts weird, and it often works to restore it to normal. Sometimes a normal reboot doesn't restore normal operation - you can then try a Diagnostic (hard) reboot, which consists of having the car off, door closed, foot off the brake, and pressing the Start button rapidly 3 times. You should then see a popup in the Instrument Cluster indicating you are in Diagnostic Mode. You then proceed with a normal reboot as above, wait for the main screen to restore, exit and lock the car and wait about an hour (sometimes overnight). This removes (most) running routines and gives the car the opportunity to "reset" after a sleep cycle, and will sometimes restore the system. You will need to check your personal settings and make sure they haven't changed after this type of reboot. The advantage of either is that it only takes a few minutes and often works before a dealer visit or more drastic steps.

Samsung wallet shows the passive entry option. I have a Galaxy S24 Ultra running Android 15 and not a single issue. Actually haven't had an issue since I bought the car more than 2 years ago. Try clearing the cache on your phone.

Just to clarify - the car needs to be in the drive ready state before starting a normal reboot.

Correct, and it doesn't need to be in Park - you can reboot normally on the fly (if a gremlin pops up while driving). BMW doesn't emphasize restarting the OS in any documentation, likely because you shouldn't need to in a perfect world. As mentioned many times however, software writing isn't their corporate forte, and even the Microsoft or Apple juggernauts need the cobwebs cleared occasionally (some would argue often).

Fisker Inc. is now bankrupt!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fisker_Inc.

“ In early 2024, the company experienced intense financial difficulties, and its shares were delisted from the NYSE.[8] Fisker defaulted on a short-term loan according to filings with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission[9] and stated there was "substantial doubt" about being able to sustain ongoing operations.[10] It subsequently laid off most of its employees, closed its headquarters, and began substantially reducing the price on the Ocean.[11][12][13] By June, it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in US court.[14] A judge's ruling allowed Fisker to postpone Chapter 7 Conversion while allowing the company to continue liquidating its assets.[15] The company and its creditors arrived at a bankruptcy agreement in October of 2024.[16]”

Should have been more clear - they don't emphasize it (0.24s YT), but they do tell you how to do it. Just not when or why....

If the car has been sitting for >4 hours and not plugged in, I find that the latest software update extended the polling time which slows down passive unlock. If you touch the door handle, you'll hear your car wake up after 3-4 seconds it unlocks. I have unlock on approach disabled though, so maybe that contributes to the long poll time.

Also on a Pixel phone, digital key seems to stop doing passive unlock after about 3-4 weeks. Rebooting the phone makes it work again

lol, I sure do!! Have had it since 11/23, so I’m well aware of what happened to that disaster of a company. It is currently just sitting in my driveway, unable to go into gear, I’m waiting on a decision from Chase if they are going to take it away, that’s an entirely different story for anyone not familiar.

For my Pixel the digital key gets temperamental after less than a week, and restarting the phone always restores order. There's some kind of conflict with Wallet that isn't obvious but when the phone can't easily make a contactless payment a Wallet restart fixes that. The two may go together.

No need to re-boot the car. Yet!

Such promise, and then criminally delivered by Henrik Fisker who should never be allowed to own a company again imho.

Apparently Oceans are being used in NY as Ubers(?). Since they are somehow functional have you attempted to gain access to whatever firmware they’re running via the Fisker Owners group?

I tried just about everything and realized my app says “not compatible with this device”. I have a Samsung Z5 flip, which IS compatible so no clue why it’s not working. Car is only 3 months old, and DKP has worked before. It’s not life altering to have it, more annoying that it has worked, now it doesn’t, and I can’t figure out how to fix it.
