Yeah I am interested in reading about the actual hardware firepower that will come with i4 and iX.
Me too! At least they will both have radar unlike some other EV manufacturer that starts with a T

In the real world, EPA estimates have not been consistent between manufacturers. Tesla always have the most optimistic range estimates compared to everyone else. https://www.edmunds.com/car-news/ele...s-edmunds.html

If we go by European WLTP range estimates, the i4 matches the Model 3 range.

Model 3 SR+ = 278 miles
Model 3 LR = 360 miles
Model 3 P = 352 miles

i4 40 = 367 miles
i4 M50 = 316 miles

It's really tough to tell on the frozen blue, but it's looking to be a similar story on the fenders - the 4 series has smooth curved lines both front and rear, while on the i4 we have sharp lines just like on the M4 (though obviously without the extra 1.5 inches of flare).

Take a look:
I think that's only due to lighting. In photography you want good light coming from behind to light up the object. These videos are shot where light is very poor, or light is coming directly into the lens making it harder to see the details. These videos are mostly accentuating the leds and lights. The vert video was shot in a tunnel!!??! I have a vert and it's about driving under sunny nice weather maybe a cool breeze. Not in a tunnel or when it's getting too dark to see anything. Anyway, I felt sorry for the advertisement company. They must have sweat a lot.

X today is the best X that mankind has ever produced.

X today is the worst X that mankind will ever produce.

In other words, you didn't really say anything valuable about ICE or EV cars.
On the contrary he did. He said "buy an ICE until EV's are sorted".

One concern of i4/iX is the non-home charging option.

Now that the administration plans to revamp the EV credits and technically can mandate the supercharger network open to all, as $1.5B(and up) taxpayer money was already spent to build that up.

I do wonder if that huge grill serves any functional purpose, e.g. a massive sensor array or something.
Well there are some iX's driving around Munich which are part of the self driving test fleet. I think the iX has everything it needs for Level 3 Automatic driving (including Lidars) but as bmw stated, they are waiting until there is a legal basis for it in the major markets. But regarding the i4, I guess it is on level with the 4er.

What's really surprising to me is that the i4 wheelbase (and I guess the 4er GC G26 as well) is just 4mm longer than the G20-G23 according to the tech sheets that BMW published.

I assumed it would have the same wheelbase as the G28 (so much more rear legroom), but this does not seem to be case - so the G26 is much more of an F36 than an F34 then after all.

I haven't found the G28 specs online, but I think press reviews of it claimed it had an 11cm (or so?) longer wheelbase than the G20. Wonder what the i3 will have as an wheelbase when it is out next year.

If the range of the i4 had been over 400 miles I would've had more interest. Same for the Audi E-Tron GT, same for the Taycan. Most Americans who will be buying these cars will have another vehicle they use for longer road trips, but most people cannot afford two cars or have a place to park 2 vehicles. This and the fact that all of these Electric Vehicles are over 5,000lbs makes it a no go for me. Lol!

Some may not have the L2@garage, or no garage at all, so public charging is primary.

I haven't seen official BMW press talking about the grille, but this article says iX(and i4 too?) has a high-tech grille:

“Camera technology, radar functions and other sensors are integrated seamlessly into the grille behind a transparent surface,” BMW wrote. Mechanisms to clean and heat the sensors sit in the front of the grille.

That’s noteworthy enough for collision repair. But BMW’s just getting started. This is George Jetson’s grille.

“In order to guarantee the greatest possible precision when using the radar sensor mounted behind the kidney grille, a nanoscale vacuum-based coating process is employed in its manufacture,” BMW wrote. “Here, the two-color finish and visible 3D effect are produced by vaporization using laser technology and by a plasma-fired application technique in a vacuum. A combination of the laser-based method developed specially for production of the kidney grille on the iX and a precisely defined combination of material and layer thickness optimize radar performance.”

Oh, and the grille can also heal itself if you leave it alone for a while.

“An additional polyurethane coating reduces the kidney grille’s susceptibility to damage,” BMW wrote. “The self-healing effect of its surface can repair minor scratches, for example – within 24 hours at room temperature or through a five-minute supply of warm air.”

BMW called the grille an example of “shy tech,” features incorporated into the vehicle subtly enough that they go unnoticed until you need to use them.

That's iX-only I believe, the i4 basically has the same grille as the 4er with that off-center radar sensor camouflaged by some cheap plastic.

M50 is quite keenly priced in the UK market. £63k for a 540Hp car that is likely 3.5s 0-60 etc

Tempting.

Because Teslas quality is atrocious. Its ride is atrocious. I does not feel special. The interior looks atrocious.

Buying Model3 I can understand as its good value for the money but now this M50 is almost in the same price point at least in our country. Teslas sales will plummet if these informed prices are really true. The M50 starting price here in Finland is 44 000 eur less than my Taycans. With the same performance and almost same range it will be selling very well.

Garage List
2023 BMW i7  [0.00]
I received the latest Auto Motor & Sport yesterday. They are testing electric SUVs so not a direct comparison with the i4. BMW iX3 in first place an Tesla Model Y last

1. BMW iX3
2. MB EQC 400 4matic
3. Jaguar I-Pace EV400S
4. Volvo XC40 P8 AWD Recharge
5. Mustang Mach-E AWD Long range
6. Tesla Model Y Performance

I'm actually surprised that BMW won since all the others were AWD and the test was in Sweden. It wasn't the best car at everything but it was the best car over all. The main issue with Tesla was its build quality and that it wasn't the best car to drive and use every day

I assume the i4 M50 will have the normal BMW build quality and with the attractive price here in Sweden, I'm sure it will sell like crazy. I'm considering one.

Thank you so much. Now I have something to post whenever Tesla fanatics keep repeating "Why would you not buy a Tesla?" in every forum.

I am surprised by this as well. Why did they find it not good to drive and use everyday? It has good range and performance.

Not everyone is buying a car for road trips.

For that distance some might even consider walking or taking a bike. Even better for the environment. But that would be another discussion.
