I've never run out of gas, and I've driven vehicles that got 9 mpg. My sister on the other hand is 27, and from 16 has run out of gas 4 times, got 5 flat tires, has been towed 4 times, and broke a wheel.

I've only nearly run out one time and that was testing how many miles my Scirocco could actually go. I was climbing an overpass when it sputtered so I flipped a U-turn in the middle of the overpass and coasted to the station.

And on the flight situation I've only missed one flight in my life and it was when we were going to Hawaii and my now ex-wife didn't like the way her hair was falling.
