My thinking is that, similar to 320i being the gem of F30, the $35000 Model 3 with manual seats and basic audio(etc, etc) should be the gem of Model 3. For one, it even has 18-inch rims!

We should not forget that most of the world's 3 series of choice is a lightly optioned 320d.

With 16-inch rims and cloth manual seats, probably no power mirror too.

same thing happened to me, tesla first referred me to a $1000 repair shop but then decided to come out to my office and fixed it for me for $320, got the reimbursement from my insurance a week later

it'll be very interesting to see what this does to the stripper G20 sales. most of the 3 series running around town are the base model with little to no options, these are the bread and butter for 3 series sales.

$320 is for both quad and rear glass? That is not bad at all. It sounds like Tesla provided free labor for the job!

The most compelling model 3 is the standard range plus for 37k that comes with semi premium interior (basically the equivalent of bmws premium package and convenience package) that car is $40k now, does 0-60 in 5.3S and has 240 miles range.

A comparable 330i is slower, and costlier. And the model 3 even has better driving dynamics even in base form. BMW need to change its pricing structure too. Until they do, I bet a lot of BIG 3 series Incentives are coming in countries where the model 3 is available.

No worries, BMWNA will likely start rolling out the G20 330i incentives soon to counterpunch Model 3 SR, e.g. a base G20 330i RWD + leather for $37k plus tax and fees. This may happen in April.

At that price range, the G20 is still ahead of Model 3 in fit and finish, refinement, and curb appeal(the last one can be subjective).

And yes, the gem of Model 3 lineup is the cheapest one, which comes with the same chassis as the very expensive Performance model, probably lighter battery pack(better handling and tire wear?), lighter curb weight without power seats(etc, etc).

For my use, a PHEV with 30 mi electric range is optimum. I would have all electric for all of my daily use, and CE for trips. And the CE power train would weigh less than the extra battery weight of the Model 3. My current 330e gets 45 MPG on road trips without charging. The new G20 PHEV would trump the base Model 3 for me. BUT, BMW better take note of this $35K price for the base Model 3 when pricing the G20 330e. I think it better be the same as the regular 330, just as the 530e is the same price as the regular 530.

G20 330e should be 37-40 miles of electric range, and yes, that fits my usage model too.

From those with experience, can you force the car into electric mode only for those few dozen miles? Even with heavy throttle, will it remain electric while the battery has power, or does it resort to adding ICE with large throttle angles or highway speed, assuming the driver wants all possible power? We have short highway distances...one or two exits...for much of our activity.

I was reading up on the same thing(no first hand experience).

This webpage on F30 330e says electric + ICE = 248HP + 310lb-ft, which I think is needed for acceleration for on ramps.

If I can't force it into electric only, even with short highway stints of ~2 miles, the hybrid probably makes little sense for me, and I'd look for the i4, apparently in the GC bodystyle which works for me, as a GT replacement. I live near a highway entrance, and major shopping is two short exits away, and I'm not interested in time/lights of going through surface streets just to keep a car in electric mode.

The article says this. It does not say what is 0-60 on electric only.

"Max eDrive is the last mode that the 330e offers. It is the electric only setting and will allow the car to reach the top speed of 75 mph for up to 14 miles."

BMWNA should consider this type of service. Better yet, BMWNA should run its own CCRCs that work directly with insurance.

My 3 has better fit, finish than any of my 3s. As for design and curb appeal, it's better than all of my 3 BMWs combined :-) Very subjective of course, but here in CA BMWs get no attention, way too common, even the M3s are a dime a dozen, 320, 330i are definitely the common man's cars.

I wonder how the service quality at already overwhelmed Tesla service centers will be with the release of the $35K Model 3?

I thought SR availability is 2-4 weeks? And there is a long SR waitlist, so maybe there is no test drive for non-reservation holder?

With the new pricing, it looks like they are trying to incentivise people to go for SR+, MR, and LT. But don't forget they also raise prices sometimes too.

However, at least there is transparent pricing with no incentives or back and forth with sales person.
