Seems it would make more sense to call it a 430e or some 4somethinge than an i4. It looks nothing like the i4 "futuristic" concepts. Which may not be a bad think, I don't know that anyone really loved the i3.

Looks like the current F36 body lines to me; new front/rear fascias and maybe the door handle set up is different maybe-camo hides a lot. Nothing over the top in new design in initial appearance. Given it's a mule, we'll have to see.

The 430e would be a plug in hybrid with a petrol engine base on the B48 like a 330e. This is a pure electric hence the name.

But, yes, CEO Harald Krüger stated that the i4 will look similar to the Vision Dynamics Concept shown back in 2017. Since this is just a test mule with early body work, wheels, and other parts, nothing prohibits it from resembling the concept once it reaches production form. Of course, it will not look identical to the concept, just as many concept cars never reach production in their auto-show form. Furthermore, BMW has also said that future i-brand electric vehicles will use the CLAR-WE and FAAR-WE platforms, sharing their construction with ICE and hybrid vehicles. The latter will retain their familiar branding while electric vehicles will use the "i" prefix. Gasoline 4 Sereis: 430i and 440i Diesel 4 Series: 430d and 440d (contrary to hype, diesel engines are not yet dead) PHEV 4 Series: 430e and 440e "iPerformance" Electric 4 Series: i4 30e and i4 40e* (with the suffix denoting tiers across both range and power) * "40e" and "30e" nomenclature is preliminary and could change for the final products |

I can already tell that front license plate mounting position is going to clash with the front grills.

probably totally off here, but the high profile tires on the car. have there been tall sidewalls tires like that on any recent 3 or 4 series recently or even other countries ? If not the tall sidewall might allude to the heavy battery weight.

Will we be able to charge via the existing Tesla supercharging network? That would make road trips (and the whole car) feasible for me.

I'm basing my grill remark on comments from others who have already previewed the design of the new 4 series.

These type of prototype/early release cars typically do not have the OEM wheels/tires on them. I'm guess they slapped some bulky all-seasons on them for cold weather driving.

...and Tesla Superchargers are only free for Model-S and Model-X models. I don't see how Musk can open Tesla Chargers to other vehicles if the plugs don't fit. Maybe he expects folks to have these relatively hard-to-find adapters? Over 70% of EV owners charge at home anyway. I've had a Model-X for over 3 years now and I've never even SEEN a Supercharger much less used one. We just plug our car in every night. Done. (We don't use our EV for long road trips - we have ICE vehicles for that...)

Cool. I love my GC and always thought "if this had an electric drivetrain, it would be perfect."
Looking forward to 2021.
