Right, I haven't heard of ghost VINs with BMW, once you get a VIN, it's as good as built.

From what I am told the issue is only with the i4 range, all the other electric models are delivering as normal and I think it's the i4 that's the only one built in Germany.

This is not accurate. US is affected like everyone else. I've been delayed for months and I'm in the US. There are still June 21 preorders that haven't built.

It's sooooo much worse here. It was obvious that BMW prioritized Europe and ROW over the US based on how many people in those regions got their cars delivered. The amount of M50's in the US is a fraction of what the ROW were delivered.

May 13, 2022- Back to order received
May 29, 2022 - Scheduled for production
June 7, 2022 - Back to order received
June 14 2022- Migrated to MY2023 leather changed to mocha. Cognac is NLA
June 29, 2022 - Scheduled for production
June 29, 2022 - Week 30
July 20, 2022 - Week now slipped to 31
July 22, 2022 - Week now slipped to 32
July 28, 2022 - Back to order received
Aug 1, 2022 - Week 38 (six week slip from last date)
Aug 31, 2022 - Back to order received and proposed week 42. (4 week slip)
Sept 1, 2022 - Request for tartufo full leather
Sept 3, 2022 - Request Approved
Sept 6, 2022 - MyBMW updated with tartufo
Sept 6, 2022 - Week 47 (5 week slip)

Don't get me started.
Others with higher production numbers and later pre-order dates have been driving their cars. Even people with individual color *and* leather.
One with my configuration except for interior color arrived at a local dealer two months ago.

I requested individual leather after the last production slip because I might as well be waiting for something I really want. I didn't want mocha interior but thought that keeping what they migrated me to would speed up delivery.

Boy was I wrong.
My car is fully loaded with all options except exterior carbon and ventilated seats.

We ordered our i4 m50 in Feb 2022 and were advised January 2023 delivery. Now that we are in January 2023, we've been told by BMW maybe April 2023 but more likely June 2023...
Definitely frustrating having to pay fuels costs for another 6 months.

We have a production number, but not sure what good that is

I don't know your configuration but you are not alone.

Mine is fully loaded with 20" wheels.

My car was originally scheduled Spring 2021.
I'll get it late winter or early spring 2023.
My pre-order was June 1, 2021.

I have been without a car and using whatever is in the driveway.

Order status changed yet again. Gone from Week 8 out to August 2023 and moved back again to Week 13 (March ‘23) for Week 16 (Apr ‘23) delivery. Seems chaos is still in charge for i4 production. If these dates hold (which I doubt) then order to delivery is 13 months.
