Had air bag recall done last week and delarer installed 07/2023.40, but I do not drive the M60 (wife's car) long enough to tell the difference (only thing I know is that it still does not have levender interior lighting).

I however would expect the release note to be the same between minor version, i.e. .33 v.s. .40. At least that's how Tesla have been doing when it comes to minor version.

That, or we would need to subscribe to a monthly plan. Pretty sure that in order to use similar streaming services with Tesla, you have to pay for a monthly premium connectivity plan or something like that. It probably also works when you connect your car to an external wifi network, but the iX doesn't have this capability (at least not yet).
Yes, it's $10/month or $100/year for the Tesla premium connectivity plan, which is tied to the vehicle, not a specific user/number.

OTA - LOL! 1 year and zero OTA updates. The SA’s assertion that they are rolled out in batches rings a bit hollow after 12 months.

BMW just does not have the OTA tech refined for prime time yet. But they sure flaunt it in the marketing!

I don’t mind reactivating and paying for the $20/month e-SIM again for YouTube. But yes the easier answer is “Tablet” but audio lag is annoying.

Mine is at the shop getting that looked at as we speak. That’s one of the reasons they did this update today. See the other thread titled “thoughts on eSIM.”

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t the eSim service required to use YouTube on the i7? Is tethering your phone even an option in iDrive 8 like it is on Tesla’s?

Yes, that’s what I was just saying above Same as it will be be on the i5. Not sure if you can tether off your phone from within iDrive - I would highly doubt it due to the complexities of so many devices being different.

The only explanation is that you have fault codes on your vehicle preventing any OTA update. Perhaps your dealer is not looking deep enough. It turns out my vehicle has had fault codes since the very beginning related to the telecommunications module which is why I’ve had so many eSIM issues. They never noticed them before until I reported a specific issue. That’s why my vehicle is at the dealer right now hence this update among a few other module updates.

I had fault codes stored in the "telematics unit" according to my dealer. They said this is why I got no OTA and my app was failing more times than it worked. It's been months and months post fix, and seems much better.

Yep. In my case previous to this issue, my OTA updates were being held up by that seat module reprogramming. Once they addressed that, I received an OTA update the very next month.

NotASheepRB, you’re going to need to take your vehicle in and have them look at the fault codes on these other modules. Simply complaining about it on here is not going to solve anything. There is clearly a technical reason why your vehicle is not being presented with any OTA updates. You’re certainly not the first person on this forum that has experienced this, but in each of our other cases it was related to a module fault code.

Please do not update your OS unless:
  1. The update contains a bug fix that you need, or
  2. The update contains a feature that you want.
There is no other reason to update the OS. Doing so may introduce annoyances that you do not want, like an ugly font. M60 owners take note, I read here or in another forum that one of the latest software updates changes launch mode to not be as aggressive. I guess BMW has been experiencing some issues with the M drive unit under maximum acceleration and torque.

I have requested they look into this the last two times it was in and they dismissed it and did not even put it on the service record.

Having this “fault code” information provides me with more ammunition for them to investigate. Thank you all for the guidance!

It’s because they’re worried about doing the research and not being able to get reimbursed by BMW for not doing any warranty work. I would go to a different dealer. 3rd time’s a charm!

I suspect they will be hesitant to push an OTA strictly for an upgrade. The only OTA I’ve gotten was related to a recall. We will see.

Why do you say this? I've been getting OTA updates on my ID7 X7 even though cars have moved on to 8 and 8.5.

Just because the only OTA I have ever gotten included a recall fix, and the timing seemed fairly shortly after the recall fix was available. I’m sure we will see the regular upgrades trickle out over time.

I haven’t even gotten my car back yet, and they’ve already upgraded me again to 07/2023.45.

A cheap Android tablet bought on Amazon 4 years ago to be used as a remote is capable of running YouTube videos. 🤷🏾‍♂️lets appreciate the talent of BMW product management team 👏🏽

I have not seen anyone confirm 7/2023 software is OTA (yet). I will be surprised if it comes, and even then it will be very spotty and there are a million reasons why some do not get OTA.

Love my iX and love BMW....but their software and OTA rollouts are a total sh*t show and embarrassing!

I’m finally running into the issue that you have in the past with your app showing a different version that than what’s in the vehicle. I’ve been watching my car “remotely” since it’s been at the dealership. On my iPhone I saw the update to 07/2023.40, but my two iPads still showed 03/2023.65. Now it has completely flipped. Both of my iPads now show 07/2023.45 and my iPhone still shows 07/2023.40.

I’m really starting to think that some of these these incremental versions are due to individual bug fixes. In other words, they may not be applicable to all vehicles. I know they’ve been working really hard getting my eSIM working properly after detecting all of the ethernet faults. They just replaced the telecommunications module and have updated the software a second time in the two weeks it’s been there.

As far as OTA updates are concerned, the July update is definitely out and it seems that BMW rolls those out two or three months afterwards. That just seems to be the trend from what I’ve seen on this forum. Don’t be surprised if you see your version upgraded if you have to make a visit to the dealer who gets it as soon as it’s released.
