It seems that typical BMW owners are not modders.
Maybe not the iX crowd, but the g01 thread gets some lively support for mods! Some neat ideas over there!

I do like to be entertaining.
The cup and sunglass holder make the car better functionally for what I want.
And who wouldn't want a more powerful stereo with real subs

It's been fun posting even with the piling on which is to be expected...

I follow these mod posts with some intrigue, since there are some interesting ideas to potentially build on.

I built some very high quality and high performance audio systems in my youth. Except, I topped out at 10" subs because the tuned enclosures took far more space than I wanted to sacrifice. (I have an Audio Engineering background, in addition to being an EE, so I took pride in building tuned enclosures that were optimized for their drivers - it is very challenging design.) But I long ago decided I did not want to give up the space for high-end audio and sought out the best stock systems available. Fortunately, the iX B&W system is widely regarded as the best audio system in any car at any price.

I was willing to sacrifice the smallish trunk space for a sub box.
There's a range of size recommended for sealed and vented boxes.
The iX space was within this range for 2 subs.

It took me 15 hrs to build the upside down layer cake box piece by piece but it came out very well.

Then I vented it and put in a baffle to keep the venting from vibrating the interior.
It works really well

That enclosure looks like it weighs a freakin' ton. In the last massive system I built, I had a tuned and ported sub box in the trunk that was designed to be easily removed - I had handles on it and a quick-release cable connector. I remember breaking my back to lift it all out of the back when I needed the space for something.

My box is 3/4" plywood I had on hand.
It fits perfectly since it was made piece by piece and is held in by gravity and the weight of the subs.
If I want to remove it I undo the screws and remove the subs.
I think the box itself is about 20 lb.
Commercial boxes are made from MDF board which isn't any lighter than plywood.

This begs another question, albeit a bit off topic. What does everyone use the space under the load floor forward of the rear bin (when it’s not full of amps and audio gear)? Seams good for blankets and things, does anyone know if the hard parcel shelves will fit in there?

This tweaks one of my biggest beefs with the iX - crap storage space.

There are a handful of things I carry with me in any car that I like to have hidden away: minor tool kit, inflator, a couple towels for clean-up, jump start box, portable EVSE, and if possible an umbrella.

My list of essentials above 100% fills the baby trunk compartment. This leaves no space for hidden storage of temporary stuff.

I'm intrigued but am having a difficult time picturing what area this is?

I do miss the large and deep hidden space in my P85, where I could easily plop a large duffel bag or portable fridge.

This space behind the rear axle where I put my box.

The space is like an upside down wedding cake.
It's not very big for a trunk and only useful for small things.
I don't drive long distances out of town in the BMW and have AAA so I don't need a road kit.

I recently had an opportunity to use the fix-a-flat kit w/ compressor that came with my car that is tucked away inside a black styrofoam insert in that rear cubby. What a miracle! lol

Ya they come with that and a towing ring bolt but you could probably tuck it under the passenger seat.

The funny thing is, I didn't want to use it initially because I read all kinds of stuff about how the "slime" ruins your tires and TPMS sensors, etc. So I called BMW roadside, local dealers, etc., to find out if there were any mobile service options to get my tires repaired or swapped. NOPE! But everyone is happy to tow my car, which seems ridiculous for a basic flat tire situation.

I finally called Discount Tire and they said to go ahead and use the fix-a-flat. They said it doesn't do any of the things we read about on the internet, and it's a great way to get back up and running long enough to get to a tire store.

I find it amusing that none of the roadside or dealership calls resulted in the same advice.

Back in the day, Tesla had a mobile tire swap program. While under warranty, if you got a flat, Tesla would send a mobile van to my location with a tire to swap for my flat. They would put the flat in the trunk, so I could get it fixed, and then I would be responsible for returning the loaner tire to Tesla. Saved my ass a couple of times.

The Green Slime is like a jello and it can unbalance a tire,
Had that happen to my brother.
I like the more watery Fix a Flat better.
Sometimes you have to call for a flatbed.
I was driving my Tesla to a service center for a gear box fluid change and a licorice tire plug blew out and luckily I was able to pull into a regular service center with 10 psi before the tire went totally flat.
AAA took the Tesla to the Tesla Service Center and they replaced the tire for 620.00.
I blamed Carmax whom I had bought the car from 2 weeks prior for selling me a car with a slow tire leak I had patched and they paid me for the tire.

To answer the last question, no, the hard parcel shelves don't fit in the under-cargo space. They'll of course lay flat on the floor of the cargo bay, but most just elect to remove them and leave them out if you need that much cargo room. They do provide cover for items in the bay, qualifying the cargo bay as a "trunk" (hence the requirement for a release ring), and shield cargo from the sun, but there's no specific place to store them in the car.

The trunk floor is 1 piece hinged and removable without having to unscrew any fasteners.
You just have to pull up on it a certain way.
I don't see much use for the shallow middle space but it was the perfect place to put my Cap, and the 3 amps and line convertors.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I can dig on well engineered aftermarket audio system, including the skills required for the design and build.

I have a long history of modifying cars, some for track duty, some for show, a few for both, from lightly tweaked Vettes to a show-stopper 4th Gen Supra.

The OEM supplied "mobile charger" kind of fits under there.

If you coil the cable so that it's flat, that fits under the shortest/shallowest area, then the box itself can kind of take the space where the deep area starts to transition into the shallow front space.

You have to fiddle around with it a bit, and it does slide around (some 3M tape and a couple of hooks would probably help a bunch).

I'd take a pic but our "mobile" is currently stuck to the wall as a replacement to the previous EVSE (I'm going to go with a hardwired 48a in the near future).
