Congrats on your sweet girl. You're never too old to adopt a cat imo. They're easy to take care of and are very comforting. At least most are.

Thanks, but the age concern was about the cat's lifespan. One of our cats lived a good life to the age of 21...if we got another with that stretch of a lifespan, I was concerned it would outlive me...I don't think even my kindest of doctors wouldn't bet I'm making it to 96.

Didn't think of it that way. I guess they could possibly be re-adopted by a willing relative or close friend that you trust.

That's evidently what our cat's last owner thought. When he died, she got turned out to the street (for the second time in her life), was found sick with hair totally matted and a broken tail that required amputation. Our rescue says older cats are the most difficult to find homes for.

I was thinking that you'd make those arrangements ahead of time, with someone that you trust, to make sure that she's well taken care of.

Yes, older cats get left behind, which is why we will only be adopting adults from now on.

My older sister died of cancer many years ago. Before she died she made arrangements with her best friend, who is also a cat lover, to take possession of her two Himalayan Persian cats. They were well taken care of and lived long and happy lives. I would’ve taken them but the cat I had at the time did not get along with other cats and it would’ve been miserable for all three of them.

There are organizations that specialize in making arrangements to place cats after their owner dies. There’s one in particular that I have saved in my Instagram account. I’ll find it and post the link.

Eventually my mom acquiesced and he got full reign of the house and my mother grew to love him. And I’ve had at least one ever since, except the four years I was in the Army. Theo, Toby, Abby, Aslan, Lucy, and Dashy.

My mother became fairly fond of cats in general, but she always loved my cats.

From top to bottom. Aslan and Abby, Aslan and Lucy, Lucy loved my dad and within two minutes of him sitting she was in his lap, Lucy climbed the ladder, Dashy as a kitten, Lucy and Dashy. Lucy loves to groom Dashy, but she has ulterior motives. She always ends up attacking him and forcing him to move so she can take his spot.

Dashy was my first kitten and he just about drove me crazy in his first 18 months. He still makes me crazy a lot, but I love him too much now to care.

Great summary of your life with cats, and cool names too! The cat on the ladder photo is so funny, I'm loving the expression on your wifes face, cats are so fearless sometimes. Great shot!

Got a cat as an agreement with my wife in allowing me to get a Porsche. The cats name - Portia.

The cat is, for all intents, our 4th German Shepherd. She even growled at the neighbors dog the other day. She's technically an indoor cat, but we'll put her on a harness and have her outside with us.

We also have a feral that we've been feeding for six years or more now. He wants nothing to do with people or inside the house. He does this same thing each time he comes and sometimes its twice or more a day. He stands/sits at the back door till you see him and when you open the door to give him his bowl of food he lets out the biggest hiss possible each and every time. He is also a picky eater. He doesn't like chunk wet food only pate and only certain flavors. He have done our best to give him a good life. He has a heated cat house plus two other heating pads plus I close in my gazebo on three side for the winter for him and thats where his house and heating pads are. As a matter of fact the gazebo is still closed in for him till this weekend. The first picture or the picture of him at the door was five years ago.

Had cats pretty much my whole life. 41 now. At first, my parents bought a house with a pool when I was in sixth grade so my older brother could go to a certain high school for sports and we had to be in the so called "jurisdiction" for that to happen.

We ended up getting a lot of mice and rodents in the pool and filter. The backyard butted up to a Green Belt field (can't ever be built on) so we decided to get a cat to help with the rodent issue. He was a kitten and I named him Sam when we got him. He was black and white and was the most fun loving cat ever. He passed away while I was away at college.

Moved back to Cincinnati to finish up my degree and got another kitten. She was very sweet but her life was cut way too short and had a form of cat aids that was passed down from her mom. She was acting fine then all of a sudden nothing and laying there not moving. Rushed to the pet hospital and they told me it was cat aids. I was devastated. The name I had for her was Griffey (my favorite baseball player is Ken Griffey Jr.)

Decided not to get a cat for a while as it took me awhile to heal from losing Griffey!

Next, my ex-wife gifted me a blue russian kitten. I named her Cali. She was simply the best! My best bud and we did everything together. She was simply the funniest, most well behaved cat ever. But boy..did she love her wet food!! Got her back in 2007 and she passed around 2021. She was well traveled as my ex-wife and I moved to AZ for two years and moved back to Cincinnati and went our separate ways. I got an apartment soon after moving back and we had a ball with each other! At this point, my parents moved to FLA and took their blue russian cat named Gus. He was a little feisty guy but very sweet. My parents has an idea to take Cali with them the next time they drove up for the holidays and see how Cali and Gus would get along, they would hit it off and become best friends! At this point, the owner of my apartment changed the policy and I was working long hours and never home so it wasn't fair to Cali and so it all worked out!

Parents moved back to Cincinnati in 2017. They lived in FLA for over 5 years. I was pretty pumped so I could spend more time with Cali.

I met my wife in 2013. She is allergic to cats but whenever we went over to my parents, she didn't swell up or anything.

So, now...we are catless but have a very needy dog that barks at everything all the time and growls whenever my daughter comes into the room. Wife and daughter know, he is on his last strike.

I like dogs, but they aren't for me. I love cats and love their personalities! I sure do miss each and every single one of my cats. Damn, they knew how to brighten up my day and everyone's day whenever anyone came over to visit!

This thread is making me sneeze.

Buddy of mine had a rag doll cat. I asked him why it was called that. He said they sorta liked to hang limp.

Thereafter, I'd ask him "how was his boneless cat?"

hahaha … thank you! This made me laugh! That is my mom. She had looked up and seen Lucy on top of the ladder at just the moment I snapped the picture.

I was a dog person growing up as my dad had allergies to cat hair. I've had a number of dogs in my life, but when I got married, my wife had 3 cats and we've had a number of more cats (and pets) in our time together, most of them rescues. Currently we've got 5 cats, 1 dog and 3 rabbits. I'll try to find pics of them all when I get the chance.

Hi all, I've been told that some can't see my pictures. Don't know why. I can see them when I look at my post. I uploaded my pics to my profile albums here on e90post and then linked the website addresses for each pic into the post, but for some reason, some can't seem to see them. Can people give me some feedback or tips (or maybe point me in the direction of an admin) so that you all can see my pics. Thanks in advance for all your help.

For those that can't see my pics here, you can see them in my ablums on the following link,

Binx and Kevin.

Couldnt be anymore different in their personalities if they tried.

Binx is a mean bastard, but loves me. He'll kick the 80lb dog's ass regularly.

Kevin is sweet, but scared of his own shadow.

I'm one who can't see them. Can't see them on my laptop or on my phone. Not sure why I can't see them or what everybody else does but I post pics in the "Go Advanced" section and use the "Attachment Manager" or the paperclip icon.

You can always post a link from your e90post.
