Only things I don’t like are the fact they will only make 70 and thus the price is too high. I’d snap up an 8 series touring in a hot second

Agreed. It’s more than annoying that the best looking BMWs are for collectors who never drive the things.

Luckily there are other car makers who get that beautiful design isn’t just for the ultra wealthy.

The BMW Concept Speedtop

Exclusive three-door interpretation of a BMW Touring.
Unique color and material concept.
Limited-run small series for collectors and enthusiasts.
Woodcliff Lake, NJ/Cernobbio – May 23, 2025… At the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2025, the renowned celebration of historic vehicles on the shores of Lake Como in Italy, BMW is presenting an exclusive new concept car that will subsequently be made available for purchase in a small series.

The BMW Concept Speedtop reimagines the sporty Touring, blending the elegance of a shooting brake with unique proportions.

“A true BMW exudes dynamism and elegance even when it’s standing still,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design. “And that’s also the case with our new concept car. The BMW Concept Speedtop is characterised first of all by its profile. It is very unique in the automotive industry. In this way, we have created an exclamation mark for our entire lineup of vehicles, especially for the Touring models.”

The generous interior invites weekend getaways for two. High-quality materials, the focus on every detail, and the stylistic connection between exterior and interior are testaments to its true craftsmanship.

The BMW Concept Speedtop shares its eye-catching form language with the BMW Skytop and will be offered to collectors and connoisseurs in a strictly limited small series.

Unique profile, dynamic proportions.

Who TF is designing these monstrosities, I believe these guys just make up crap and then slap a bmw emblem and say mmmm people will buy it. I don’t think I need to say this design is not for me, reminds me of front end of Lincoln car and rear end of a Chevy magnum.

I would guess some ppl internally at BMW actually believe like many of the customer base that the iDrive8 button-less screen thingy is actually a step back in terms of usability, distraction and design etc.

I personally ordered one of the last 2023 X5 to NOT have the new infotainment and loss of physical buttons.

Also BMW loves to pick stuff they have laying around in the parts bin too.

Maybe because those who might pay $400k are not interested in iDrive 8 and big screen.

Not exactly quoted at that price point, but with only 70 Speedtops expected to be produced, pricing similar to that of Skytop (50 units, $400K) should be expected.

https://www.motor1.com/news/760570/b...concept-debut/

Basically, both Speedtop and Skytop are re-skinned 8-series.

Between the two (Speedtop vs. Skytop), I like the Z8-style noses of both, and very little of everything else.

Skytop looks kinda bland:

Speedtop looks way too ass-heavy:

We bought a 2022 X7 M50 for the same reason.

People here will bitch about anything.

V8. Sleek design. Good looking front end. Physical controls. Expensive, leather filled cabin. Yet, people still bitch.

BMW should have released these models under the 8 Series badge. Imagine an M8 two-door hatchback or shooting brake.

These are cars that should be in production and available to the world. Not the rubbish we have in the sales catalog right now...
