so your next ride is a bicycle ( there you still got lifetime subscription for that what you initially bougt / NO E-Bike just the oldschool one )

ps: because all manufacurers have subscriptions now wich are a few months or 3 Years ( BMW) included.....

Btw, in Audi world the same subscription is called Audi Connect. At least looks like. Correct me if I'm wrong.
So true, Netflix, You tube, Tidal, Prime Video......are all by subscriptions

Counterpoint: I hate getting nickel & dimed too, and I hate that so many things nowadays require a subscription. But this? Not mad at all..

When I bought my M2 Comp in 2021, 4 years of ALL ConnectedDrive services were included, plus a full year of SiriusXM (most automakers give you a crappy 3 months). My 4 years just expired. Renewing ConnectedDrive is $120/year. I chose to pay it because I use the native navigation, so the RTTI info and map updates are with the cost to ME. If I were not using that stuff, opting instead for CarPlay, then I wouldn't have paid it - and still would have retained BMW TeleService, Intelligent Emergency Call, and Remote Services. These do not require a subscription and will be functional as long as "technically possible". I think that's more than fair on BMW's part.

That's the game they play. They sold you the shit you pay to play ("included" means "see the price", not "we love you so" ), but they won't take it back for any compensation if you don't. Could you opt out of it or was it "all included"? When I looked at M2 back then it had the huge screen/navigation ("I know where I am going", I only used my car phone holder a few times ) mandatory. At a huge price too. And I'd have needed a guarded garage to store it particularly - it would've been ripped out of the car instantly on the street. Say, Cayman looked simple and affordable (almost) by comparison - I didn't really believe that. You'll carry that fat until you choose to buy a whole new car from them (they give you 4 years to mitigate the shock ). They team with the others to convince you no way is a good way. If they fuck you only gently besides taking your money for something else you might even like it. You don't respect yourself really too much, do you? Nor do they.

"Intelligent Emergency Call" I am not interested to find out what makes it so "intelligent", a guess is easy though: "-Help me! -Shit happens. You need to help yourself first!".

At the end of the day data centers and hosting services are not free, every manufacturer has some form of “connected services” that are subscription based.

Hyundai only gives you a “trial” of the services for 1 year, then you have to pay. I think Audi is even less at like 6 months (though don’t quote me on that).

Dumping an excellent car because the voice command system that was crap when new now requires a subscription as the included on as expired is beyond crazy, but whatever OP.

The voice command uses online services which do cost money to run on an ongoing basis. It’s been this way for a long time.

Not necessarily. The car's infotainment system is so bulky! It can store something. And so they say: https://faq.bmw.ee/s/article/Intelli...mD?language=et. It's just I've tried my locked phone's voice assistant and all it can say offline is: "You need to turn off the airplane mode for that." (they call it a joke, too). So would it be: "-Hey, BMW! -Just fuck off. No connection!"?

Also, Google's voice recognition/input service on my phone does require Internet connection but last time I tried it (only a few years ago!) it was free.

The funny part is it's no different than BMW giving you 3/36 of included maintenance. After that you have to pay for it. I don't see anyone complaining that lifetime maintenance isn't included.

If you find it funny, should I complain I didn't have any maintenance included? It is different in that maintenance is required for the car to last (yet not to run while it can ) but infotainment isn't (and it won't work if unpaid, even though "technically possible"), yet it implies equipment that costs. There's been a thread around here about some owners are so misled/confused they understand included maintenance as implied, nothing to do/worry about. It's not funny if it's the game they really play.

I must be missing out... but I didn't even notice when my subscription expired. I use Android Auto for nav.

But, getting back to the OP, so $12.50/month is enough to make you want to dump your car?

Complaining about capitalism while being so passionate about a consumer good you post on a forum about it and owning a BMW in the USA. The hypocrisy would be amusing if not so sad.
