Thanks for the thoughtful suggestion. I'll check to see what BMW i Concierge can do since I've been informed by my SA that it looks like the car will be at the dealer over July 4th. By the way, when will you be getting your replacement i8?

It just got built. So, I'm estimating about 1.5-2 months to get to the US west coast. It's not too bad since I'll anyway be traveling for another month.
When I come back, I'm thinking of renting a Leaf while I wait. ![]() |

That's good news that your vehicle is built. I saw a Mephisto Grey with blue accent, same as mine, coming towards me from the opposite lane on Mission St. near New Montgomery in SF several months back. Wondering if that was yours.

Not me. I live in the south bay, and haven't driven to the city yet. And my car is white with blue accent.
Strangely, I'm yet to see another i8 on the road. |

I'm trying to get that info from service later this year - the most interesting would be to know zero emission miles, not only miles driven with eDrive.

Oil & filter change service for the i8 came to US $85.00 which included a 15% customer discount. The amount ended up being completely comped since my vehicle is having to remain in the shop (almost week 3 for software issue and turbo replacement).

But to make you feel better I just had my Audi in a dealer for FOUR weeks for a simple replacement of 4 tires, so you are doing pretty well for a much more exotic repair... ![]() |

They offered me cash compensation to keep the current car. I think it was 9K. There was also a free BMW school offer on the table.
But I wanted a new car; there was that lingering feeling that the problem may happen again. I tried to negotiate a deal where I'd keep the car until a new one arrived. But they declined. So, I called the dealership and asked them how soon they can get me a new one, and the wait wasn't too long. I think they moved me to the head of the line, prior i8 customer and all. So, I called BMW back and opted for the lemon law review. The refund: down payment + all lease payments - miles when trouble started. It means that I drove the old car practically for free. I feel like I came out unfairly ahead in this deal. I still don't understand why they didn't opt for what I thought was more reasonable for both sides. Addendum: I started the process by telling them that the vehicle is at risk of becoming a lemon, and asked if it's time to escalate the case. Last edited by hytek; 07-09-2015 at 04:29 AM.. |

Well, in your case, they definitely didn't have any choice. That's definitely not right to have a newly purchased vehicle just to be placed into servicing for well over one month. I got mine back yesterday, day 25. Have placed a call to see what the i group has to say about it. Thanks again for your helpful input and response. Hope you get your new i8 soon!

FYI, the i8 oil and oil filter change is approximately US$100.00. Furthermore, the engine requires 7 quarts of oil, which is quite a surprise given the size of the engine.
