Not exactly a modern car thing but in the same vein...

I got pulled over within days of going from my Mitsubishi Montero to a Geo Storm. I was very frank with the officer and apologized saying I'd come from a car that it felt like I was doing 55 when going 25 to a car that felt like I was going 25 when doing 55.

He checked my paperwork and saw that I'd only had the car for days and let me off, just telling me to keep a close on eye on the speedometer until I was used to the car

Yeah I was amazed. Even lower cost cars like Civics and Corollas would do 85 and looked like no problem. I remember my cars in the 80s and over 80 everything would start to shake and stability became an issue.

I was cured of ever owning a convertible after driving a Chrysler Sebring and my son's 87 Mustang GT convertibles. Cowl shake was unbearable on both and the Mustang was unstable above 75ish.
My brother in law is a state trooper and said his supervisor told him back in the 90s he would get a couple of triple digit speeders a week.

Now, my brother in law said he see's that in a day. He "blames" the cars but if you can't tell you're 100 plus you're just not paying attention.

My 1st BMW was a 2012 F10 535i. I went to pass a left lane hogger shortly after purchasing the car and when I looked at the speedo after lifting to slow back down I was going through 105. I had no idea I got from 70ish to that speed so quickly.

Oh I knew. Only because I look at the speedometer regularly. The car and road at that point was so smooth it was effortless.

I don't want to get banned for politics, but the guy in the upper left looks awfully familiar. Perhaps this is the origin story for the McD connection.

When I got this I thought "I know just where to repost this".

I don't really miss living in Ohio, but there is something just a little bland about upstate NY.

I just saw this news story about new CHP vehicles. Cool idea for hiding in plain sight, but how are citizens to know the real CHP from an imposter with a similar-looking SUV when they are being pulled over on the highway? Sedan_Clan, is this a potential issue or not based on your experience?

Not based on my experience. They are marked, so that minimizes much of the concern. It’s the unmarked cars performing traffic stops that make people question.

I confess an unmarked car is a concern. I can deal with it if the car is unmarked and the officer gets out in full uniform.

I think it should be illegal for a plainclothes officer in an unmarked car to pull for traffic stops. There is no way to tell if he is real.

Well, there are reasons why that occurs, but it is not SOP. They aren’t usually doing traffic stops on “normal people”. Most times they are Detectives and working cases. Usually they have marked vehicles perform the stops.

I was pulled over when I was 17 or 18 by an unmarked car. The officer lost his shit on me because he had been following me for almost a mile through the town streets and finally managed to get beside me and force me to the curb. I was not running from him and was going very close to the speed limit, maybe slightly over.
My defence for not pulling over was that he was driving about a 10 or 12 year Chevy Nova that was all body fill and primer ( thank you Nova Scotia winters) and he had no emergency lights on. I could hear a siren but I had no idea where it was coming from despite looking for it. He gave me a ticket for running a stop sign at an intersection that I hadn't even gone through. That pissed me off but what can a young'n do in that situation? It'd be my word against his.

Do you normally keep your police car as your personal vehicle? We recently moved and noticed one house has a police SUV parked out front pretty much all day every day. I have only ever noticed the car not there later at night so my guess is they work the night shift or something. I just find it odd that the car sits there all day not being used. Is that normal?

I’m not in a special bureau, so I don’t have a take-home car. Whether you have a take-home unit or not varies from department to department, and depends on resources. We’re way too large to offer that benefit, but smaller departments do often provide take-home units. I’ve noticed the Nevada officers take their cars home; the units are always parked in their residential driveways. You have to remember that we don’t work 8am-5pm, 5 days a week. Many/most departments are on 3-12’s or 4-10’s (…or might offer a flex schedule), so the car could sit there for 3-4 days without being moved. Our coming’s and going’s are unconventional. My normal schedule is a 4-10 set up; fixed days off. I work at least 6 hours of OT a day, so usually I’m at work from 1400 hours to 0600 hours, causing my days to really overlap. This week, alone, I’ve worked 16, 16, 16, 18…and today will probably be 5. I leave for Hawaii tomorrow morning, so I’m only working a half day and no OT.

What says BP-OT more than a squid-girl sheriff's deputy with a "CHASEM3" license plate getting busted?????

https://www.fox35orlando.com/news/of...late-officials

Off-duty Florida deputy arrested on I-4 with fake 'CHASEM3' license plate: officials

By Aurielle Eady
Published June 1, 2025 5:03pm EDT
FOX 35 Orlando

DELTONA, Fla. - An off-duty Volusia County sheriff's deputy was arrested Saturday night for riding a motorcycle with a fake license plate and has since resigned, authorities said.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, 26-year-old Erica Muzzy was arrested along Interstate 4 and charged with possession of a counterfeit license plate.

What we know:
Shortly after 11 p.m. on Saturday, Muzzy was riding a motorcycle on I-4 West in Deltona with a tag that was flipped up and was not visible, deputies said. When flipped down, the tag reportedly read "CHASEM3."

Muzzy was pulled over and later taken to the Volusia County jail on a $2,500 bond.

Prior to the traffic stop, deputies said Muzzy was involved in an incident just before 9 p.m. in Deltona.

The sheriff's office said one of its deputies spotted a motorcycle rider at a Wawa located at 3400 Howland Boulevard who had fled from an attempted traffic stop earlier Saturday evening.

While being detained, that rider called out to Muzzy, who was with his group of riders, and became argumentative with the deputy conducting the investigation.

That motorcyclist was arrested on a charge of fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement. His identity was not immediately released.

After his arrest, deputies said Muzzy chose to leave the Wawa on her motorcycle with a fake tag instead of having it towed or getting a ride home.

Following Muzzy's arrest, the sheriff's office said it became aware of a social media account associated with her showing reckless stunt riding on public roads.

Authorities are now looking into that behavior as part of an internal investigation.

Before Muzzy resigned, she had worked as a deputy since 2021 and was most recently assigned to District 2, which covers DeLand and northwest Volusia.

What's next:
Muzzy appeared before a judge for a court appearance on Sunday morning and has since been released on bond.

As of Sunday afternoon, her next court hearing had not been scheduled.

The new stealthy CHP Dodge Durango’s are nice. We had a few officers booking bodies at my station.

Do they at least have the spotlight on the driver's side? At least give people a chance to spot them in traffic.

No external spotlights. The intention is to blend in.

I've got absolutely no issue with them blending in.

I have long said that there are times I choose to speed. It is 100% my choice and if I happen to get caught doing so, I will fully accept it.

That said... speed through a residential area or school zone and you might just see a bowling ball rolling towards your car
