When it happens, physically inspect it and the receptacle it is plugged into. See what if anything seems unusually hot. The flexible charger also needs to not be in a well ventilated area; it is not rated for outdoor use from what I recall and may not be able to work in very warm conditions. How hot is your garage getting when this happens? If it is the receptacle that is very hot, stop using it (not worth risking burning down your house) and get it replaced ASAP. Insist on a premium one to replace it and if they can verify that it doesn't overheat when your car pulls the max power it can. Other than that, if you can get temporary access to another charger to see if it happens to that one as well or if it is only happening on yours. I wouldn't pay 260 to inspect it nor would I blindly just replace it for 600$ unless they are willing to take it back if it also has the same issue (i.e. it isn't your current charger that has an issue) Good luck! |

Make sure you have a commercial grade Hubbell socket installed; if you don’t replace the inferior current one immediately. You also should be limiting the amperage of the circuit as I thought I’d read the Mobile charger should only be install of a maximum of a 40A breaker, so 32A continuous as Windshieldfarmer stated above.
Personally if you only use the BMW u it at home and do decide to replace it, get a ChargePoint Flex |

Regardless this is a dangerous situation that might be resolved with a high quality socket such as the Hubbell; (assuming one isn’t being used), or having a ChargePoint Flex hardwired. |

how hot does your garage get when it is very hot outside?
Did you try to see if you could feel if anything was feeling very hot to the touch when the charger errors out? i.e. the cable, holster, charger or outlet? I would think that the most likely culprit is the charger itself. Is it in a spot with decent airflow or is it in a very busy area of your garage? |
