When I bought my 2022 Ford, I just went all Boomer with it and turned off the modem. Lol.

No updates, no connected services. Pure automotive bliss, just like the old days back in Boomerville.

OP, if there is an option to pay by snail mail, just send a check for $12.50 every month.

Exactly why be tied to the cars limitations

It could, if BMW didn't decide to go with AOSP.

If it works as well as my SONY/Google TV, there might be a lot of BMWs on the side of the road

BMW Operating System X: intelligent, versatile, fit for the future.
The new BMW Operating System X represents an update of the latest operating system, as used in many BMW models, and is a wholly in-house development from BMW. Like BMW Operating System 9, it is based on an Android Open Source Project (AOSP) software stack. It offers even greater update and upgrade capability than the predecessor system, making it both fit for the future and backwards compatible. It is ready to accommodate additional functions and will keep vehicles equipped with the new BMW Panoramic iDrive at the cutting edge of technology over a long period of time.
“The overall concept of the new BMW Panoramic iDrive with Operating System X has been enabled by a large technological leap forward,” says Stephan Durach Senior Vice President Connected Company BMW Group. “It offers intuitive operation, emotionally engaging experiences and specific personalisation. The new BMW iDrive with Operating System X demonstrates the potential of a software-defined vehicle.”

As for someone who very recently replaced an Acura with a new X3: Good luck trying to find a different manufacturer that doesn't have a monthly fee for their connected service. At least with BMW in the short time I've used actually feels well designed and what I can call "good". Unlike that dog**** that Acura has (there's a reason why their Android app has like barely even 2 stars and far behind anyone else).

Also glad that apparently it even has a 5G modem so it should be future proof for at least a little while.

I got over my snit having to pay a subscription. Paid the $150. Now it isn't reliable. Worked a champ for 4 years. Since it ended and I had to restart it it is fubar. My experience on the phone fixing it isn't good either. BMW is disappointing me in a big way.

BTW so far as I can tell Kia/Hyundai/Genesis don't have subscriptions but I could be wrong.
