I would never buy a car without android auto. I use YouTube premium for family for music always and Google maps some of the time audible etc.

Which flavor of android auto is on your must have list: AOSP, AA, AA with GAS? The iX (and most of the rest of BMW, I think) is none of the above. iDrive 9 is AOSP.

A bit out of my depth here but the one on my idrive 7/8 that has worked with S24U seamlessly.

The difference to most consumers is negligible. Android Open Source Project is managed by Google's development team licensed generously under Apache, and is essentially just the source code needed to get the OS to operate. I'm sure BMW uses it under that license, but the context for most users for AA is just that - the working, stable current version - v14.0, build 6512. How the hardware uses it depends on what BMW has coded (and Google permits) for the car in their matrix - OS 8.0 for example has no capability to play YT natively (since AA 14), whereas v8.5 does. That's the only thing that matters to consumers. The magic behind the screen is not important to the average driver except for what appears on it.

Doh, I am an actual moron here. My brain leapt to Android Automotive (the car OS). But your comment and the context here was Android Auto (phone projection).

Never mind. I am in violent agreement. I don't think I could every own a car without phone projection (for my CarPlay world).

We looked at the Macan. But it’s much smaller. My wife is a huge fan of the iX. She has convinced a couple of her friends to get the iX as well. We are thinking of upgrading our iX 50i with an M70. We don’t lease and don’t borrow for cars so it’s pretty expense and we keep a car we like for 5-6 years.

The B&W audio and sound isolation on the iX is 2nd to none. The seats are also excellent. I recent had a ride on an XM and actually prefer the iX. JMHO.

Yeah 💯 . We have the M60 for 2 more years on the lease. It has every option. Incredible vehicle. Has held up very well. I just started listening to lossless quality on Apple Music and it takes a great system up another notch!
