I try.

I'm cheating a bit on the i8 as I've done 6, 2400 mile round trips in the car. I fly to NYC, Cali, and the like. If I'm rolling in the south and mid-west I can drive if I plan my visits well. :roll eyes:

Then you would be further disappointed with any McLaren or any Porsche 991 chassis for that matter. Their weight saving purpose is for track performance, whereas the i8 is for delivering an evolutionary anomaly - sports GT performance with absurdly high mpg and lowered emissions.

If you're looking for higher cabin appointments and coach work, then you should consider Ferrari, Lamborghini or even the Porsche 918. However, they'll cost you substantially more than 145k.

MK6er and Aye-8. I feel like a real poseur. I've only got 11K miles on the i8 in two years. And an equal number of miles on the M4. But I now work pretty much from my home office which spares me the mind-killing 101-405 drive to Century City every day.

Those 11,147 miles (that's what my smart phone app says right now) have been very pleasurable. Driving the i8 is like listening to a string quartet, the M4 like a rock band. But at any time I can crank up the music in the i8 and take the mountain roads where I live as quickly as in the M4, and with a minimum of fuss and a lot less noise.

I'd like to go see what the NSX is all about, but the Acura dealer adjacent to my BMW dealer (Bob Smith in Calabasas) closed earlier this year and has just been replaced by an Audi dealership. Not a good sign, eh?

Hahahaha! The classic internet troll comment "Bet it's mommy's and daddy's" which translates into "I'm such an envious loser that I can't fathom how other people could be in better financial situations than me. So I'm just going to assume that they never earned it and their parents gave it to them; that way I don't have to feel terrible about falling short."

That's ignorant as heck. What part of this is exactly "Honda"? Is it the Formula 1 Honda parts? You're sounding as asinine as the Porsche is VW and Ferrari is Fiat people. If you have nothing to contribute, just read and move on. You don't HAVE to comment and have people laugh at you. Bring your 458 and race my Tesla S P100D and I'll show you what a gokart you are driving (That is if you have a 458 at all...)
Your Tesla is a very nice car. It's no Italia.

As commented elsewhere you need to buy into the idea of an i8, sports car efficiency that is daily accessible with high efficiency

I have had fast cars with lots of horses, but how often do you use that?

A tesla (btw I have ordered a p100d model x) is extreme in a fast line, but loses out to ICEs at high speed.

Don't know much about the NSX at all, but if it came to buy it, it would have pros and cons like any other car.

Fact is NSX does not have the same brand value as BMW and BMW does not have the same brand value as Porsche etc. Porsche does not have the same brand value as Ferrari.

These debates are pointless as it's all down to personal opinion and taste. Would you rather have a faster car from a less prestigious brand? NSX vs i8, i8 vs 911 the list goes on.

That fella has a Ferrari, Bentley and i8. Good on him.
Would I like that, damn right, would I buy it, maybe or maybe not.

Fact is he has it, you don't.

People have fast Teslas...great

Pointless post, but people are posting on a i8 page, so people will be biased. So the troll comments and trash comments are just plain stupid and taking away from the original posters intent. And more importantly devalue this forum.

Lol! Poseur?

Each time I read your list of previously owned cars I become a bit jealous, and that doesn't happen to me too often!!

I'm chiming in because I may, arguably, have the most driving experience in i8's besides the test drivers in the world. My 2015 is approaching 41K miles. I drive it everywhere.

I can tell you its weaknesses: HP, not TQ and its skinny eco tires. Period. End of story.

The chassis is stiffer than anyone can imagine. I had no clue until I swapped cars with a friend of mine and followed it at a very high speed clip in the twisties. NO. BODY. ROLL. My buddy said it was an epiphany.

I've replaced the skinny eco tires with 255-35/19s in the front and 275-30/19s in the rear. The car has been transformed. No understeer, whatsoever. I am a trained and drive pretty hard and I can't safely come near the limits of the handling on a warm day on the streets. This is how it should have come form BMW. I understand the BMWi mission, but I would have done that part differently. (See what I did there? )

My next move is a tune to increase the power a bit. If I am able to achieve the 413-420 that the 2 tunes I've come across achieve, I'll have more than enough power to harass almost anything on the road.

Now, about the NSX: Beautiful car.

I first saw it at the New York Auto Show in 2013. It has obviously been through quite a few updates since then and is clearly a car designed by a committee. I do not say this negatively but the fluidic design seen in the i8 is missing in the NSX. The proportions are very good and the car has great presence. IMHO, a big selling point on the overall design is the viewable engine. I miss this in the i8. The lost opportunity for the NSX is that it is easy to tell where they cut corners in the engine bay if you know cars and most people at this price point know cars.

The interior is great and comfortable but claustrophobic compared to the i8. The fit and finish are quite good but the controls still feel like a Honda. I only drove it for about 3 miles as it was the floor car but it feels tight like any Honda with the only negative being the slightly disconnected feeling one has when driving nearly any Japanese car.

I was personally invited by the owner of the local dealership to attend the launch event. They also offered a private showing and reception to my car buddies, as well. Again, fantastic Just not my cup of tea.
The 255-35/19s in the front and 275-30/19s in the rears are on your stock oem wheels?

Yes. The fit is great, they look amazing and the handling has been transformed.

As you probably know, BMWs have weak front grip to make them safe for the civilians. Strengthening the front grip made the car handle the way it should have from the factory.

Got it 17 months ago, I'm averaging almost exactly 1k miles a month. Such an easy car to DD besides the lack of storage space.

I copied and pasted what you wrote in terms of the tire sizes for the front and rear. You did mean 255-35/20 front and 275-30/20 rear. Not 19's. If you do have 19's then you don't have the stock oem wheels

Yes. Thanks for the catch. The 19s are burned into my brain from my E63 M6. The weather was rather bad today. I will attempt to do a pic for you tomorrow.

For me, the only thing the i8 is missing is the red paint from the NSX. Pretty much everything is perfect on the i8, considering its price point.

I absolutely love my i8, but this 2.8 sec claim is laughable.

Good write up. I agree with this. I8 felt more special when I drove it than the NSX did. And I'm telling you guys the interior is rubbish especially if you've used other Acura (Honda) products. Acura has the worst infotainment system currently among luxury brands.

Really? I'm looking forward to test driving the NSX. On paper it looks like a beast. If I could only have one car now between the i8 and NSX I'd say NSX hands down by just looking at the pictures and hp rating. The i8 is unique and techy but the NSX looks like a race car and the interior with the two-tone alcantara looks like that from a luxury race car.

I mean I love my i8 for commuting and stuff. But a race car it is not.

Good write up. I agree with this. I8 felt more special when I drove it than the NSX did. And I'm telling you guys the interior is rubbish especially if you've used other Acura (Honda) products. Acura has the worst infotainment system currently among luxury brands.
Good read

"Get in a BMW i8 and it feels futuristic – you press a button, the engine falls silent and you’re suddenly in the Red October, running silent and deep. There’s something stealthy and appealing about that."

"In the 918 and i8, that sparkling whoosh of electricity feels interesting and special. The NSX doesn’t have it."
