This morning the iX is reporting 378 miles of range at 100% (because I have a roadtrip tonight). It literally just jumped from 350 at 99% to 378 at 100%. |

I really hope over course of next few months BMW announces (like Mercedes) that it will accept Tesla NACS standard and provide adapter for existing customers.
I don't know when and how fast will this consortium deliver on their promise. Till then on road experience will suck being at mercy of EVGo and EA. I have rarely heard of anything good about these two guys. |

Unfortunately the gods have punished me for not getting the M60 with rear-wheel steering: while doing a U-turn in Kingman, AZ after charging, the boat that is the iX50 ran aground and I was forced like some commoner to drive the rest of the way to Vegas without regenerative braking, lane assist, HA, and a straight steering wheel, all the while scolded by the iX about "vehicle may roll", "chassis stabilization problem", and "you've really done it now". Strangely, the app still reports "All Good" even though there were 10 or 11 warning messages from the vehicle. BMW of Las Vegas made me bet on delivery times for new parts, I won a month. On the positive side, I "have to" do another Vegas vacation after they repair the iX, aww shucks. I also get to experience the raw 4-cylinder-with-AC-on-full-blast powah from this Camry. Before the apocalyptic event the iX was doing fantastic with not ping-ponging in the lane during HA and being quiet enough to hear my "friend" drop a stinkbomb during a short pause in the music. Drove to Vegas in a BMW, driving back in a Toyota -- and I don't even gamble! |

For electricity charging my iX, I'm paying US$0.41/kwh. Its all price unfriendly over here as long as one wants to own a private vehicle. The car population is strictly regulated. Limited suppy of permits available monthly hence the crazy prices. |

Not as bad as water-locked Singapore, but there is a growing state trend in the US to charge "alternative fuel" taxes for EVs with the increasing sales and lost gas-tax revenue (a gallon of diesel here has a .50 state tax). Just re-registered and the "electric" tax was $75, proposed to go to $150 by 2027 and incrementally up after that. As more states lose funds to repair and maintain highways, a trend that will increase. I still estimate I pay about 20-30% of the fuel costs for my X5, but that difference will decrease, especially as more of us get on the DC network traveling.

My last charge was 301 miles @ 70%. Living in Arizona has its benefits in terms of rain, snow, and cold not being a factor. There are some basic steps I do to achieve an efficient drive:

Given I do about 30-50 miles a day max we’re talking a difference of like 2kWh max a day which if I’m on a decent home charging tariff comes to about Ł0.15 a day. I’d rather drive a bit more naturally and take the hit than live on the edge of madness trying to get the needle to 3 mi/KWh…

And on topic - from a UK perspective any collaboration and effort is welcome. You guys in North America are kind of leading the market so I’m hoping once they start cracking on there they’ll pipe up here.
If you’re not with Tesla in the UK there are seemingly tens/hundreds of independent providers and no consistency in charging speeds or pricing etc. Like most have said the plan is to charge overnight at home for daily driving and only need the dc superchargers for long distance. It was a v good point someone made about why would you try to add so much mass to a car for the once a month long drive when a decent charging network will have you sorted on a 30 minute toilet and coffee break… the whole point of EV is to save the environment right so unnecessary bulking of cars can’t be a good thing and so there will inevitably be a sweet spot for each country or region I’m guessing. Fun times

This so-called charging network is going to be a debacle because everything is being decided by ICE-infused corporate suits with no real experience in EVs or with what EV drivers want. This is going to be a charging network by committee and it's going to suck. Sorry to say but that is my prediction. It's also going to take YEARS before it's in any position to claim any usefulness.

Honda and Acura just announced they are moving to NACS/J3400. So, BMW is in the minority of this group. Hopefully BMW jumps on board!

But fundamentally I agree we shouldn't expect any kind of miracles. Creating something competitive with Tesla's network will take years, maybe decades. |

I think this is the current tally of NACS/J3400 players. BMW really needs to poop and get off the pot.
