For some people like me and my wife, comfort entry messes up when we switch drivers.

I.e. the first time I take the car after she has driven, the seat positions itself too far back when i click in my seatbelt. I have to press the 1 button to set it to my actual seat position. Subsequent drives, it works perfectly, until she then uses the car and it does the same to her.

I have one photo of DC charging where this does not show. This is my solar charger so it’s only 40A but the car is set to 48, which is what tipped me off.
This is expected behavior. My BMW Wallbox reports 40 A inside the vehicle as well even though it’s set to 48 A in the settings.

Exactly my situation. With multiple ID’s seat rarely moves to desired position. How hard can it be

Hey guys, so I had a thought. Over in the US here we have 3/36k free “maintenance” (useless for iX) and 4/50k warranty. Right now the software updates and stuff are free/included especially when needed to be done at the dealer.

I understand that we are starting to get the updates OTA like with 11/2022.64 (and earlier versions for others) but what if we need an in-person update for major updates at the dealer after the initial 3/36k miles? I’m going to hit 36k miles in about 4 months so I’m concerned. Will the dealer start charging for that?

Depends on your dealer, but generally they require a "problem" (I assume to get reimbursed) to update software. Although it might be a "manufactured" problem. I've never had an issue just asking my dealer to update it, but I believe others have. After the warranty, can't say....

Well you'd have to pay for them to do any work on your car.

Will we continue to get OTA updates is the real question…. I think that this will be tied to the BMW ConnectedDrive subscription services that are offered beyond the first four years that are already included.

The OTA updates seem not to be limited for the moment from what it shows me, unlike other services that expire in 2026 and would have to be renewed $$$.

But how long in actual practice they will support the car for.... Who knows. I would ask my SA how long after a car is released do they tend to get updates for and base my expectations on that historical trend. Does anyone here know how long they've done this in the recent past? (Not OTA necessarily since that I think only started in 2019)

Correct, and that might be why the dealer may still do updates to the OS - unrelated to warranty services. Or may not. A caveat to this is I haven't read the fine print in the contract. When I owned a Q7, similar question, and I did eventually read the fine print - posted on the MMI website, buried about 5 layers deep, in microscopic print at the bottom of the page. It said, paraphrasing, "We reserve the right to stop supporting the software at any time for any reason." And they did.

It should be understood as an inevitability that they will stop supporting OTA updates for a car sold today at some point no matter what. I hate that they use confusing language like "unlimited" when what they really mean is "unlimited for now" for this particular service. It would be better if they said something like "at least until 2030*" with a note saying that BMW might choose to extend it in the future. Text like that would set expectations to something reasonable (i.e. 8 years) and if they have a business case for it down the road could choose to do it for longer.

Unlimited “as long as it’s still being developed.”

That would be better than just unlimited, but I'd like a firm commitment as the minimum duration. Then you know from day 1 what to expect.

I've seen BMW drop some supported features when cellular providers dropped support for older in-car cellular services. Not everything is within BMW's control as they are customers of infrastructure providers as well. Going back to CDMA and 3G being retired. Granted, I don't think we run the risk of 5G going away anytime soon but at some point it will happen.

OTA updates for our BMW's have worked pretty well in my experience, as long as you're not driving a V8 that seems to need goldilocks conditions, park on a flat surface, drive the car, but let it cool down before being able to apply the update. On the other hand, the in-line 6 engines don't seem to have the need to cool down before initiating the update. At least the iX doesn't have that problem.

I'm at my dealer now for my F15 service and asked him about this. He said any non-OTA software updates past the 3/36k maintenance will be charged $350. Yikes.

Unless you report a problem that is "fixed" in the software update. That has been my experience with BMW in the US. It would be covered under warranty.

This is where tipping or giving sporting/concert tickets to your service advisor pays off…

And that warranty goes away after 4/50k. aim at 7 months/23k already so my warranty will be gone in a year. Gonna be expensive if OTAs don’t get sorted.

Folks are treating software updates like they are mandatory, manna from Heaven. They are neither. NEVER, EVER update any software unless there are specific bug fixes or new features that you want. If this doesn't apply, leave your software the hell alone.

Anything that BMW wants you to have will be received OTA. Anything that has to be applied by the dealer will either be a warranty claim or optional. Any software updates related to recalls will be free regardless of warranty status.

I’ve got bugs. Lots of bugs. Still haven’t received a single OTA and I’m stuck on .44. My plan is to have the dealer install the march release when they do the airbag recall - whenever those parts come in.
