I was due to be traveling back from a huge trade show in Nuremberg tomorrow - needless to say they cancelled the show. Still can't believe it. I have been going to it for 18 years. They have now announced they are rescheduling it for Sept. Helped with the flights as we were about to take it in the rear on those, but I'm sure many will bail on the show now.

It's crazy. While I am not worried about the virus, I will say I was happy we got a deal to fly out of Dulles and into Munich instead of going through Amsterdam like we usually do. Amsterdam airport is a major hub for every country and the amount of people moving through there daily is staggering.

Is what it is I guess.

Wow I honestly would have not expected much of BPost works at a college/university, interesting trend.

I called my dad yesterday, he said he cancelled all his trips for the foreseeable future. Keep in mind this man travels so much there has been times I would tag along to spend time with him

I'm a Database Administrator for a healthcare company. We have been given suggestion that "if you can work from home, please do it". I do plan on working from home this month expect going in for a few meetings.

I also know that King County (where most of the WA deaths have happened) has issued a statement stating "King County recommends companies allow employees to work remotely when possible"https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle...when-possible/

One of the state university (University of Washington) that has campuses in Seattle, Bothell & Tacoma has transitioned all classes to online for the rest of the quarter: https://www.washington.edu/coronavir...inter-quarter/

My company has the vast majority of our factories in China, so we are getting regular updates from them directly. Just this morning we received an update. Luckily we are in a very-strong position fiscally, but our supply chain is getting slowed down by mostly external factors. We have pulled back marketing expenditures significantly, but I'm in the sales division, and we salespeople are applying the throttle. I'm in outside sales and I'm not slowing my roll at all.

When I raced mountain bikes I had a philosophy... when I got to the top of a long climb I'd make sure to hammer down extra hard for at least another 100 yards. Not only did I make up ground on the competition, it would demoralize them when they saw me cranking away while they wanted to recover. That's what I'm doing now with sales. When others decide to take a cautious approach, I'm stepping up my schedule.

Also- the sales division is the tip of the spear. The rest of the company needs us to make sales, so the operations teams, finance teams, executive teams, and marketing teams have things to do, and resources to do their work with. Everyone is counting on the sales team to succeed. If we let up the ramifications will ripple throughout the rest of the company. This is no time to let off the throttle.

Well, at least not until next year. Just like the flu.

True. But if I don't catch it, what'll I do with all these cases of hand sanitizer, bottled water and toilet paper?

I stopped shaking hands a few weeks ago and have moved on to a new form of greetings - I now lick everyone's palms. It's great! All kinds of new flavors to experience and way less toxic than sleeping with my whore of an ex-wife!

On a serious note, as I mentioned in another thread, ALL work travel has been banned. Not sure if it's chiseled in stone as of yet, but I heard last week that if any of our employees leave the state that they aren't allowed back to work for 14 days. Not sure why on the 14 days, I haven't researched it.

Funny side story, I went home early one day last week for health issues. Not sick per se but wasn't feeling well. The pain in the ass that I share an office with kept making comments about how if I was sick I needed to go home because she didn't want to get sick. Today, she comes to work sick and is now accusing me of making her sick. Funny how I should go home to keep her from getting sick from my high blood pressure and migraine, but she is here coughing and sneezing all over everything and it's somehow my fault. Come on Corona Virus, we need a good old fashioned cleansing.

Hell hath frozen over! Our CIO just put out a carefully-worded survey to "qualify" certain staff/admin employees to work remotely "if the need ever arises" to close. They are collecting information from those who have institution-issued laptops about what kind/speed of Internet connection they have at home, and if there is a phone available where your office calls could be forwarded to.

This all came with bold print disclaimers that there is still no WFH policy, and this information is only being collected for planning purposes. It will still require a formal decision to close, approval from the department's director, VP, and HR for each individual on a case-by-case basis. Baby steps.....

First "presumptive" case in New Orleans/state of Louisiana. Fully expect Tulane to over react and shut things down... already making sure we are set up to teach via Zoom or other related online methods.

Some people are truly ignorant. I went to the market today to pick up a sandwich at the deli and could hear someone coughing up a storm and when I looked over could see he wasn’t making any attempt to cover his mouth. Far enough away from me but other people standing not too far from him. I wanted to throw a jar of pickles at his head but it was a little too far and I was afraid I’d hit one of the people he was infecting with whatever he had going on. Even if it’s just a cold it never ceases to amaze me how inconsiderate people can be.

I work in downtown Seattle. We are doing the following:

1) All employees who can work from home are (about 90% pf the company)
2) 1 member of our 5 person executive team in office each day of the week to support the employees who cant work from home. My day is Wednesdays.
3) Cancelled all business travel for our US employees as well as employees abroad.
4) Cancelled all trade-show appearances
5) Moved all in-person customer meetings to MS teams online meetings.
6) Lots of hand sanitizer
7) Increased office cleanings from our cleaners, in particular high "touch" areas like door handles, fridge doors, etc.
8) Sent 2,000 N95 masks and 20 digital forehead thermometers to our factory in China.

I just saw that on the news earlier today. I'm just waiting for the mass hysteria to erupt around here. Totally over this whole thing.

I'm in and out of hospitals and clinics all day so it's business as usual for me.

Business as usual. But we are one of the companies developing a test for it.

Side note, because of the job, I know the masks everybody are buying... are about as effective in stopping a virus, as a chain link fence is in keeping gnats out of the back yard.

I have to say the national media coverage of this is awful. The sensational headlines and stories have whipped the public into a frenzy over this. William Randolph Hearst would be proud of what today's media has become.

Sorry, end of rant!

Work is not taking claims of illness claims seriously anymore because several employees claimed to have coronavirus in an attempt to get off work. Boss later spotted a group of employees at a bowling alley at night. I got fired because of a prank; I thought it would be funny to put fake blood in my mouth and start coughing it up at lunch whilst zombie twitching down the hallways.

I wish they'd stop with the "over 60" bit. As in, "Those over 60 should stock up on essentials and avoid crowded places." The supermarket is a crowded place. Ours has a "shop online" app where you can order stuff and have it delivered to your car when you arrive at the parking lot. We stopped by today for milk and salad and saw someone getting goods delivered to their car. Of course there was a ton of toilet paper. Who goes through that much toilet paper, sick or not?

I just turned 61 a few months back and I'm in better shape now than I've been in years. I'd rather avoid getting the damn thing, but I'm sure I'll survive if I do.

I'm wondering what will happen if it hits the university, though. In our state, if you are out on sick leave for more than 3 days straight, you need to apply for FMLA. The FMLA rules say you cannot do any state work while you're on it. Not even checking email. So a quarantined professor or IT pro, sick or not, would not be allowed to teach his/her class online or work remotely. Could get interesting.

That thing that's causing intestinal distress now is the effect all this is having on my supplemental retirement funds. That's enough to make me cry.
