Free money from the US government

What are you doing with yours?

I know the wife and I will give it to Church and possibly Salvation Arm. Also the little coffee shop and their employees.

I still have my job so do I not qualify for it? Either way, this is a bad move by the government!!

I'll put mine in the bank if I get it. I owed taxes for the 1st time in my life this year so that would give me my $882 back.

Everyone here probably makes too much to get more than $5...

...those that don't will pay off debts... this is a borderline useless tactic. The only people that need this are people that need help making their ends meet due to job displacement... and sure that will help them for a whopping 1 month.

Another horribly planned disaster. If anything, this virus will show how many agencies and companies are not prepared to handle anything bigger than a snow day. My father works for the state, and their incompetence is really showing with this one, the state education agency is a joke.

I can see this as another debacle. So far there are no specifics as to how the Feds determine if one has been significantly affected by COVID-19. There was also language as this will be means tested as in if you make X amount, you only get Y amount.

I see this as another dump of money with no real effect; the same as when those "Stimulus" checks went out. Either way, I don't expect any money as I didn't get a cent of the "Stimulus" check. Back then I made too much money to get that check even though I was in the position to spend because I was able to do so as I wasn't in debt up to my eyeballs and had some disposable income. This time I will probably be classed as making too much again so won't see a check but am dealing with a ton of debt because of my divorce. I was adversely harmed because of the timing of the COVID-19 outbreak and its affect on the stock market. I had to liquidate some stocks as a payout to my ex as part of the divorce settlement. So I had no choice but to take the loss.

Yeah...another boondoggle.

Or you have a corporation and can direct it to pay what is needed to benefit from said plans.

Which is what I intend to do. I don't very much like having to support others that could be working, so if I can keep some of my money in my own pocket, all the better.

Don't have a problem with supporting those who truly need it, but I don't believe everyone on the dole actually needs it. I see them walking around and smoking their cigarettes just fine. Get a job.

I'm waiting to see how they will even be able to determine means. I suspect that those who are most impacted by COVID-19 shutdowns are tipped staff and "gig economy" people who are not reporting or paying taxes on a large chunk of their income, and rightfully will be paid less if the incentives are paid based on means as reported to the IRS.

If the feds send me $1,000 as a part of this, I will buy a new keyboard/monitor to make working from home more palatable...and split the remainder between donations to the nursing student scholarship fund at work and the area's local not-for-profit hospital.....

Unfortunately, if I get anything, it's going to pay off my divorce debt. I'd like to donate money but I feel I've given enough already. I paid 100% for my ex's nursing school even when we separated. So that's my donation there. And I used to be a volunteer first responder/EMT.

I would agree that this handout to people is literally the worst idea they could possibly have. All that is going to do is put our country more in debt likely at the taxpayers expense sometime in the future.

A better idea is to just suspend mortgage/rent, property/school taxes, and utility payments for the coming months... And then yes, you'll still have to pay the missed payments added to the back end of your loan and you will have a little debt from the utility companies. I mean my utility bill is already on a bi monthly billing cycle, whats the difference if they add one more month or two to that.

I would say that's most peoples biggest expense and most of us could live on a lot less money per month without those costs. Once normalcy returns to the world everything can just pickup where it left off.

But you do realize that America is not that great right? Over 70% of Americans live bill to bill and there are many study's about it. So maybe govermant knows more then what we know, and they know that people should stuck up on some food for few months, especially the people that barely meet there ends with bills.

Yep.

The majority of the money, they know, will go right back into the economy. Which is the point.

Sure some outliers gonna buy some meth and what not, but the majority will buy necessities.

Trump making money rain from the sky is nothing more than a poorly-planned attempt to appease the hyperventilating media during an election year.

Nothing more.

The media is not going to "get on his side" no matter what he does.

+3

I am very concerned if this thing causes a long term shutdown. I started my life over in 2017 and walked away from everything with a fat alimony payment until the end of 2022. Started over from scratch. My income is 80% commission. I won't last long financially.

I don't expect the govt to send me a check for the record.
